Seats Upgrade

Hey there I just want to recommend upholstery spray paint if you have the horrific light grey seats in your car. Comes at £10 a bottle of amazon and to do my whole interior including door cars I used up 4 and a half cans. It's a lot cheaper then buying a new interior and much nicer than seat covers.

I spent 60 mins cleaning then spraying my seat cushions midnight black, and now they look a million times better.
It is easy to apply as the paint only keys to absorbent materials. So any over spray can be cleaned of with a dry brush, or wiped off while still wet.

Pictures will come tomorrow when I have the dried results.

It did, I will be honest that it didnt come out that bad otherwise I would have fitted it.

But at some point I will go and get a spare headlining and use some fabric dye. Look forward to seeing the pics.

Interested to see the pics. I was tempted by this dye stuff from Amazon but in the end I bought a new interior. Found real bargains on eBay, sourced a whole new interior for £120. Sometimes it really is worth just trawling eBay for a bit!

From this (old pic, when I bought the car):

The pictures don't show matching rear door cards fitted, though they were fitted at a later date.

Overall the results are good, but unfortunately I had bad water stains on my front seats to begin with, I'm a little annoyed how they came through again after the spray. But they still tidy up the interior. To anyone looking to have a go I used up 5 cans without doing the door cards.

In the long run an Oem Fr interior in black and red as shown above would be amazing when i have more £20 notes to fuel the car owning bonfire.

I am quite jellous the dye now seems like a stop gap,What car is that interior off of and do you fancy selling me your interior :p

When trawling eBay did you search for breakers or the standalone set?

Why not take off the seat covers and dye them properly in the washing machine? It's actually pretty easy to take them off.

Sounds like a shout i'm not sure how the rubber bits on the rear of the seats would fare

How do you take off the covers?

The rubber bits wouldn't dye. Need to take the front seats out by undoing the bolts on each corner (m10 spline bit) then take off the plastic skirt on the bottom (torx screw heads, not sure what size). Then at the back of the seat (where you bum sits) you can see a seam, pull out the plastic flat and its self explanitory from there on. Same process for the seat backs. The rear bench is the easiest, turn upside down and pull out all the plastic ridges holding the fabric tight, then pull up and the rest should be clear enough.

What colour were they to begin with as you seem to have sprayed them grey

The interior is from a facelift Sport model, not an FR or Cupra or anthing, just a standard Sport.

I came across them as a standalone set from a private buyer, considering the amount of people who want a change from the light grey ones to something like these, I'm amazed there was no other bidder in the auction!

I was even considering seats from a Polo as they are the same.

possibly the colour and the lack of airbags limited other bidders.

Could really do with some new seats but as my car is blue and has seat air bags these were a no no.

nice seats btw:)
