I notive this post is really old. I have a MK4 Tdi, fitted an aftermarket, took it out again.
Problem is I have to turn my amp off maunally everytime - which wire do I connect to turn the amp off when I turn off the ignition ?

Look at post 25 in this thread - you need to use pin 5 on the head unit to the remote wire on your amp for auto switch on.

Thanx Deano, wasnt sure what the wire is called.

Can you tell me what must I do also ?

From the radio I have inserted a hi-to-lo convertor. This convertor has 5 holes, 4 for speakers and one for ground.

2 Questions -

1. What do I put in the slot named "G" ?

2. What do i do with the remote wire ?

1. If "G" is for ground then you need to connect "G" to terminal 8 on the head unit - best to keep a common ground for audio

2. On your amp there should be three wires + 2 phono plugs.
The three wires should be +12v, -12V(ground) and a switch(remote) wire (usually thinner than the other two) - you need to connect the switch(remote) wire to terminal 5 on the head unit

Theres no wire coming out of pin5 ? Its empty.

Pin 1 - 2 wires
Pin 2 - empty
Pin 3 + 4 have a wire each.
Pin 5 - empty
Pin 6 - wire
Pin 7 + 8 has a thick wire each

If you test pin 5 with a multimeter you will find +12v when the radio is switched on.

This is the pin usually used for a powered ariel or amp switch on.

If you dont want to or cant use pin 5 - Your only other option is to find an ignition live and have the amp switch on with the ignition rather than the radio.

PS - why are you using a high level input for the amp ? - you could get a connector that fits in to the kammer 1 section of the radio - it gives you pre out for the amp and a 12v signal at pin 6 to switch on the amp.

The Diagram above shown by Pricey is switched around.
Found the +12 wire, is a small thin brown wire. Ignition on = green light on amp. Ignition off = no light on amp :)

Thanks alot Deano, glad this is sorted out now.

Only thing now is waiting for my radio code :)

I unplugged it earlier, not realising when plugging it back in, it is going to ask for a security code. Phoned AUDI in Pretoria, say theyll send it by tommorow.
Code isnt my Alana guide, nor on the radio. Gave them the serial and Chasis number.

Bummer.
