As Said above El, it's defo the coilpacks. Happened to me last year; I went with the Beru coilpacks sold by Eurocarparts. I think they were roughly 28 pounds each- slighlty more expensive, but hey came recommended by the guys at the store. Very well made and and have been reliable ever since fitment. It is advised that all four packs are replaced at the same time, to avoid further failures and/or rough running.

Hope this helps? The stance of your car, especially at the front, looks soooo nice with the spacers fitted. It's amazing how much of a difference the spacers make isn't it!

Thanks for sharing mate, I will see about getting a set of the Beru coil packs. Definitely changing all four and keeping the two which are ok as spares for emergencies.

Cheers James, really like the stance also. Spacers make such a difference for sure. Still in two minds on whether I should get the splitter back on. If I do the car will be practically Un-drivable as it will be hitting everywhere, also I have grown to liking it without as it sits so low.

:think: do I raise the car slightly and get the splitter on or leave it off and keep it dumped to the ground :think:

It's a difficult one isn't it! My under tray catches all the time, and mine is at almost standard height. However, I can have my splitter on without it catching... well...most of the time... I live in the sticks so any lower would not be possible, if it was a daily. It would be a shame to comprimise the height of your car, as it looks lovely. Maybe the splitter could be for special occasions?

I sometimes never understand how I can drive it so low. Hardly catches and when it does it's only a slight touch underneath so not bothered. Think I use to hit the bottom more on standard height. Most likely with how I drive I guess, because you know your so low you tend to take it easier and choose alternative routes without realising. I was thinking about getting a splitter for shows etc but when I had to take m previous one off it was a right pain. Had to literally rip it off. Not sure if I did anything wrong :shrug:

Just got back from Euro Car Parts. Interesting info for those who need to replace their coilpacks. These guys have 3 different ones, a cheap knock off brand, Beru range and the OE range. Those two are made by the same people but one has the Audi/VW stamp on it and therefore pricier. Guy at the counter gave me a discount, usually £31.80 but he's done all four at £105. Goes to show that sometimes it's best to go in store rather than ordering online.

Thank you James for mentioning this to me before I went and purchased anything. Saved me some cash :)

Heard a few folk with LCRs say the scrape less after lowering, I figure maybe if you drop it a little more at the rear then altho the front is lower it's sitting at slightly higher an angle :shrug:

Good point. The OEM set up is with the front slightly lower. That coupled with the fact that the OEM suspension is softer and the car tends to dip further down when breaking at speed bumps is why you tend to catch the splitter often. Although saying this I still have the front lower, better stance but also for handling. I didn't want the rear to be lower as it will just be unstable, especially at high speeds.

Coilpacks changed - Car is now FIXED!

Right decided to skip lunch at work and head home to sort the car out. Very straight forward job to change the coilpacks, just loads of bits in the way which you need to undo before you can get to cylinder 3 and 4's coilpacks.

I was hoping to change my spark plugs also however ran into a bit of a niggle. There is a metal bracket which holds the charge pipe and this is in the way in order for me to get to cylinder 1's spark plug cleanly. Hows everyone getting around this? I didn't want to force the tool down in case I broke anything (my usual 'old' habits). Only way I could see doing this is to completely take this bracket off which I didn't want to do now as I only had a hour to do it all and get back to work. Any tips would be great guys!!

Anyway back to the actual issue which caused a load of grief. I am happy to say that now that the coilpacks have been changed the car is back to it's normal self. Will scan the car with VAGCOM later on just to ensure all is OK.

Glad to have it back although I am going to kind of miss my replacement car. Been driving my sisters BMW 1 series coupe 120d M Sport as she is on holiday. Fantastic little car I must admit. Very comfortable, lively, looks smart and the MPG compared to my brute is ridiculous. 40.3mpg compared to my 21mpg for my usual journey to and from work

I test drove that exact same model of 1 series when my other half was looking at new cars last year, can't say I was that impressed myself. Found the interior a bit cramped, driving position too high and couldn't see anything out the back for the rear headrests! Certainly didn't feel like changing my LCR for it.

Glad you got your LCR back on the road tho :)

Fair enough on the 1 series. To be honest when I test drove it with her I wasn't massively convinced, well for me anyway, but for her its spot on. Suits her nicely. You don't need to see anything out the rear, parking sensors go nuts whenever something comes 1 mile behind you lol Rear leg room is cramped though I must admit, luckily I don't have to sit back there much. Seating position is interesting, I have managed to set it up nicely and I sit in a very comfortable yet sporty position

Yeah in fairness I didn't really play with the seating position much, maybe would have been able to find something right, but I still found not being able to see anything out the back a bit unnerving even when driving along an open road. I learned to ride bikes before learning to drive cars, bike instructors will teach you to be looking round a lot more than car instructors, maybe it's a hangup from that.

But yeah they can't be bad for everyone or they wouldn't sell any, and I'm pretty fussy I guess :)

See your last point regarding speedbumps and not scraping as much once lowered as when at stock ride height - I learned pretty early that at stock height it's easier to go over them when under acceleration, not coasting or braking, for the reason you describe. So I tend to brake, come off the brakes and then give it a little gas just to lift the nose a touch when hitting the bump :)

Yes, I broke the splitter that came on the car about 10 hours after taking delivery of it ;) Lesson learned the hard way...

Going to book the car with AmD to sort this along with a few other bits like running a boost leak test as I am adamant the cars got a leak somewhere. Would like them to do a full health check on the car and let me know if there's anything I should look at fixing. Peace of mind and all

Good call mate, I'm going to get them to do the same with my car when I get the knock sensor done soon. Boost leak test as I had the throttle DV error for boost leak up but cleared it and it hasn't come back... so may only be a slight one somewhere but I want her air-tight! Lol.

She'll run like a dream soon mate. Think we're in the same boat!!

Same boat indeed mate. All will be worth it though. My main priority on all my cars is to have them running mechanically perfect and then start to look at other areas. Some say I am OTT with it all but it's just how I am. Hopefully they can fit it in as soon as possible as I don't fancy driving the car much with the misfire

I decided to ask around to see if it is still safe to drive the car with this issue and a couple of members helped me out. One asking th obvious question of whether i cleared the fault codes properly in the first place. I decided to go back out and scan the car. I think I may have used VAGCOM slightly wrong in the sense that I was clearing the codes in the Autoscan section. Quickly read on the Ross Tech site that you have to go into the Select Control Module > 01-Engine > Fault Codes - 02 and clear it from here. Only from here do the codes get cleared properly. I did this and then went for a drive. Turned the car off and back on and scanned again. This time all was clear with the 'no faults' message showing

School boy or what :(
