Well the latest issue is a rattling CAT! I went up to Stainless Creations and got them to check out the exhaust etc. and the rattle is coming from the CAT. I asked Backdraft if they've had this issue before with their CAT's and Alex said yes, the innards of the CAT can shrink and start to rattle. Only solution is to cut the CAT out and weld in a new one.

I've asked SC to quote me for them to do this, if it's too expensive then I'll just buy a universal Jetex CAT for £275 and do it myself, clamping it in instead of welding.

decat :D cheaper and slightly better and no hassle of this happening again :)
when i went to badger 5 a little while ago they had a milltek cat that done the same thing so i guess it can be quite common.

Did a quick search on ebay - Magnaflow 3" 200cpi universal CAT is only £85 with free delivery! A different one same spec is £130. Jetex is £275. Magnaflow CAT is metallic core and other one is ceramic core - which is best?

I read the other day on the Jetex exhaust website that metallic or ceramic is to do with legislation, e.g. one is legal for road use, the other isn't, strictly speaking. Here - http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/catalyst103r.php

Always thought the metallic cats are better as they aren't as fragile?

Beware!

Tuffty I think had Magaflow Cat, and it shrank and turned 45 degree to the axis of flow.. Restricting the exhaust severely.. Shyte thing

I run Jetex on mine.. yea dearer than Magnaflows bargain £85 thing but not seen one go wrong. Jetex one was significantly bigger.

Have you seen yours working on MOT tester yet?
Nice looking approach, vbands etc, but I have to wonder for that price, including its vbanded etc how much precious metal could actually be in there to catalyse?

If its passes, great... Do you know if its ok?

Neither the advert on GT3turbo.com or ATP's site mentions the CPI so dunno Bill

It does look pretty neat though!

neat looking for sure... BUT, I do remain a little sceptical given its price and what actual catalyser material could actually be in there for the money.. chinese or not...

Both the Jetex and Piper CAT's sound good ones:

Piper £290:

Both are designed to slot onto 3" pipe and be clamped on, looks an easy enough job to cut the old CAT out and clamp one of these into place.

....................... or spend £20 on a straight bit of pipe and decat it! :D

Decat would be good Rob i remember i had my miltek fitted with a 200CEL cat but i opted for a decat and honestly felt more power from just cutting the cat out than i did with the full exhaust. Only downside is its a bit of a hassle come MOT time i was lucky enough to know a mate who got mine done.

Saying that im not sure if you would notice a few extra bhp with the power you are running haha

I dont know if it would as previous owner only ran the decat
Once its fitted an mapped i'll have to quickly try it on the machine
