Then you need spacers to clear the caliper and the wheel will rub on the wheel arch. Plus the discs weigh a ton. Cupra brakes will be plenty enough for Graemes car.

Wee bit irrelevant though. I am a function over form man. Would sooner fit some purpose made stoppers for the car than something that would score me "scene" points ;)

You think fitting big brakes is 'scene'? I have no real idea but I wouldn't have thought so
I very much believe in function over form. And those are some of the most functional brakes available

I seem to remember you being one of the big advocates of them at the time

They are more powerful than Cupra brakes for sure but not night and day difference in my experience having driven a Leon with them. But they werent designed for the Leon. The caliper sticks out further which means you need spacers. On fast bends, the wheel sticking out further will come in to contact with the arch. And that sucks.

Also, despite the caliper being light, the disc is really heavy which increases rolling mass = slower car.

Purpose built brakes like K Stop for £800 which would fit on the OEM wheels, give as much if not more stopping power as these, weigh less and with 2 piece discs which will weigh loads less than the Audi discs, would be better. And they are cheaper to buy. May not look as good, but they serve the purpose of performance loads better ;)

Mk5 R32/S3 8P/Cupra 1P front brakes are all the same.

R32 and S3 rears are vented - Cupra is not.

Looks rank IMO. Audi Brakes, hideous Merc wheels - probably on a VW or something

What about the R32 Kit that my mate scott had for his Mk5 GTi?

IMG_0093.jpg

Sure they weren't amazingly expensive - Got them from a guy on the Mk5 forums as a kit.

Has Scott still got his for sale? Do you know who he bought them off of?

Aye Al the merc twists nd brake set up is off a mkV R32. In all fareness mate, with all the mods it is a minter man!

Nah Scott traded the GTi in (with the brakes) for a Mk5 R32 with all the toys... I think he said the guy might have gone travelling or something, don;t think he was a trader specifically but sold quite a few kits.

His name wasnt dave was it?

There's a guy in Volkswagen circles who gets called something like dave the brake master.
I think he buys up any second hand stuff he can and rebuilds it, while painting it to a very high standard
