Replacing some of the smaller engine hoses, help please (pic included)?

Please excuse the poor description I am about to give.

Howcome in all the photos i have see the inlet on the front of the engine where the throttle body is points to the right hand side of the car (towards the battery cover) but on my 04 T cupra it points to the left (towards the coolant bottle)

Is there a reason for it being the other way round? the SMIc is under the water bottle, do the pictures on this thread all have FMIC's?

you have a cupra and i have a cupra r. different intercooler setup between the two models.

how'd you get this metal clip off near the engine cover?

just about to get round to changing this pipe but it went too dark, wasnt sire how to get it off anyway

Did you manage to change it

You can do the hose to the left hand side too
Just need a bit of 10mm for it
Did you change the hose all the way up where that metal clip was or just to the hard pipe

Of course! If i was to fit a FMIC would It be easier to swap the part with the inlet to the cupra R to save me having to run twice as much pipework or is there something stopping me doing this?

What DV have you got? 4mm fitted fine at both the manifold end and the DV end for me on my Forge valve.

Forge Split - R, fits over dump valve but not of the other thing (that my dv is connected to)???

also why did i get 4mm tubing, lol i dont remember? so far everything has been 8mm, was it just for the dv?

a ha here is the list:

An old pic but you can see the larger ones are 8mm

They are
1. Top of throttle body to check valve
2 Check valve to solid pipe against bulkhead
3. N75 to port on charge pipe next to DV take off ( blanked off on mine)
4. Carbon canister to hardpipes aginst bulkhead
5. Expansion tank to hardpipes against bulkhead (coolant)
6. N75 to actuator but needs to have a reducer down to 5/6mm for actuator fitment

4mm ones are:

1. Under inlet manifold to FPR
2. Under inlet manifold to N249
3. N249 to top of DV
4. Boost gauge piping (FPR is adviseable place to tee for source)

Ah, the N249 - a grey and black plastic thing with a bunch of black rubber hose, sitting on top of your coilpacks? When I changed the DV vac hose I also did the N249 bypass at the same time so I took a 4mm hose straight from the feed to the N249 under the left hand side of the intake manifold straight to the DV.

The other thing you can use 4mm stuff for is from the other vac feed next to the N249 one under the intake manifold up to the fuel pressure regulator at the right-hand end of the fuel rail.

i dont fancy doing the n249 valve bypass so what do i do?

also im keeping the engine cover on so unless the pipe is showing i dont want to do it if its completely under the cover, wasting pipe.

Im trying to work out some cheap mods to do, and thought of replacing the following hoses in the engine bay. Mainly the ones labelled below (thanks rsmith for the donor picture :), engine bay looks sweet mate!):

They all look around the same thickness, except for maybe #3

  • Where can I get the correct sized hose from?
  • Will I need new jubilee clips to attach them?
  • Will coolant and oil piss out when I try and change them over?

Heres what my engine bay looks like currently:

#4 is 8 mm #3 is 10 MM

My engine bay guess I need a shot without covers next time but you can see most of the hoses your talking about. I went with 4 mm instead of 3.5 mm from the picture with red hoses...

Can someone please give me a link to some clips. I cant seem to find the right ones want the ones that have two prongs, one facibg each way, u squeeze togetgrr and the internal duameter increases, all i can find is sum scabby jubilee clips. Daym eBay

what's wrong with those Mikalor ones? They look like they'd do the job.

If it's just for the small vac hoses then cable ties should suffice, most of mine are on like that with the exception of the ones under the intake mani as it gets hot in there.

they have one prong on one side and two on the other, looks hard to get a proper grip on them with pliers compared o one prong a side, only thought.
