Much cheaper key repair than expected

SWMBO has broken her key!

She dropped it whilst picking a load of stuff up, and the key came apart. She put it back together and thought nothing of it until she tried to start the car to come home, and ...... nothing. Just the immobiliser light flashing.

Anyway, she lost the immobiliser transponder out of the key, and we were quoted £75 from Seat for a new lower key, plus coding.

A search on ebay found a seller in Newcastle who can supply just the transponder chip for £12. Next day delivery, and it's just cost £45 to have it coded at Seat dealer.

Total cost of £57 instead of way over £100 the Seat way.

Well worth keeping a note of this supplier.

This is good to know!

I need a spare key but do not have the SCN code so it beggining to become a nightmare, does anybody know of anywhere that can read this off the eprom before go buying new cable / software such as vag commander??

DOn't know about how to read the SCn code, but before you go out and buy a cable, check out the VAGCOM/VCDS owners map, there is bound to be someone local to you who has a cable.

If you can't find anyone on the SCN forum, have a look also on Briskoda.

I already have vagcom and cable, i have downloaded vag commander to but now found out you need a different cable to be compatible with the interface.

I cant beleive how hard it is to get a spare key without the SKC code, god help me if i lost my only key
