Hey Guys...
Not looked on this for a while - im a lazy bar steward and just didnt seem to get round to it. Now the summer is coming, and touch wood some good weather i wanna get this sorted.

Ive been using bin bags for the past 3 months or so under the door to catch the water. Only seems to leak in with a lot of rain. Ive probably trapped about a cans worth of water on a heavy night of rain. This has helped dry my car out. I cant feel much squelching under the carpet any more. Also had a large dehumidifier in my car for 6 hours. Only extracted a little water and the reading showed it as pretty dry. However, when driving in rain, i still get all misted up!!!

Anyway, i know on this thread is everything i need to know but i cant seem to find it all, so if someone can put the details down that would be great. I wanna do all 4 doors so i need enough of the best sealant stuff, a place to get it online at the cheapest. Also some of those clips in case i break any.

Also, has anyones rear window washer stopped working. Ive noticed this recently. It trickles out and seems to leak into the left of my boot. Any guides on sorting this also?

Split pipe behind the left rear panel, need to drop the rear seat forward to expose a screw you need to remove.

Got round to doing my drivers side door today.
I found out that whoever had owned the car before me had tried the bathroom sealant method, which had failed big time. Most of my time was spent trying to get the old bathroom sealant off.

5 minutes to remove grab handle & screws
2 minutes to remove various plugs.
40 minutes to remove all the old sealant and old vag seal :censored:
5 minutes to add new seal
5 minutes to refit and check all electrical items still worked.

Was also very fortunate and suffered no doorcard clip casualties :p

Big shout out to DubSteve for the guide, made the job a lot easier. Cheers mate :)

Did you need to heat up the butyl strip or anything like that to make it stick to the panel?

The opposite infact. It was a warm day and it was getting stuck to the backing paper.

Chucked it in the freezer for 10 minutes to cool it down, this made it easier to apply without compromising stickiness.

You can buy it from a Seat or VW dealer. You'll pay a bit more than the stuff you can buy from ebay but its not bad - about £30ish if i remember right.

Thanks for the guide. Did all 4 doors, but the rear ones looked OK anyway.

Now trying to dry the sodden underlay, managed to push some props under the carpet to try and allows it to dry, but I have a feeling the interior may have to come out

Butyl sealant strip...

Not been here for a while, good to see the thread's still alive and kicking ;)

A note to anyone buying butyl strip - DON'T pay stupid dealer prices as it's really cheap stuff and is used in many different areas of industry. The stuff can be had for as little as £5 for 8m (and there will be some left over...), definitely don't be paying more than £20 including postage.

Any size between 6mm and 10mm round will do and colour isn't important because it's it's not on show (brown is a popular choice with glaziers and works just as well as white or black).

If anybody here wants some (and I'm sure they will) I have a couple of 8m rolls of the black 6mm round going spare. I'll put them on eBay and put a link in the FS section - think my inbox could fill up pretty quickly if I offer them here...

Finally, huge respect to LEE69 for his his time sharing his wisdom and pointing people in the direction of the guide I did (that's buried somewhere in the middle, now no-one will ever find it again due to the size of this thread...). I WILL buy you a pint one day mate!
