Rob I run 4AWG too and yes it's definitely slower to crank but it starts without any problems. I copied your setup and because of the angle the earth is coming from (spare wheel thread) to the negative terminal it popped out of the crimp connector (but stayed in the rubber sleeve so I couldn't see it had popped out).

I changed the crimp connector for one with a grub screw which I could really clamp the cable into. I also ran another earth off the -ve terminal and up to the light screw, seems a lot more stable.

As for the wideband questions I noticed my OEM headunit went off yesterday - only since I've installed the Zeitronix kit.... interior light also doesn't switch itself off after shutting the doors - very annoying but all this since I installed the Zeitronix, if it relates to anyone elses problems?

If youre using a braided wire you need to solder the ends before crimping.

Make sure the earth off the battery is short and on good bare metal.

Id also check connections on the wing, starter and alternator.

Cheers - ordering some 0 AWG cable now so I can replace both and be done with it. It's a pain in the arse with it struggling to start all the time

EDIT: Reading back over this thread it sounds as though I'm going to struggle routing 0 AWG cable through the car, underneath the door sill trims where my 4 AWG cable currently runs alongside the meth line.

I'm looking at getting some CM50 (50mm^2) cable from http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/cable/batterycable.php - is it safe to run this underneath the car? It looks as though this is what Bill has done in his car?

liams polo runs 0awg cable in its sills ok
doable.. been done... just awkward

:) Cheers Dale, top work as always. Nearly there now...

Heres how she looked yesterday as we wait for the final few bolts and gaskets to get the engine finished and ready to bolt back into the bay.

Great thread Robbie. Recognise those Comp's. Gti t (Tom) kept swapping the OZ's (they really suited the Lupo) & his other set of 15inch Comp's over, finally deciding to sell the Lupo which has been exported to Southern Ireland. The Brembo's were taken off & will soon be up for sale. He also decided that the OZ's would look good on my car, LOL, got home one day & they were already fitted! My Comp's gathering dust in the garage. He's replaced the Lupo with an LCR so the drive look's like a SEAT showroom, an Arosa Tdi, Mk2 & Mk3 Ibiza Cupra's & just one VW here now (Rallye Golf).

Hey Pete, good to hear from you - thanks. Nice to know the wheels are being used!

Shame Tom's got rid of the Lupo, though onwards and upwards with the LCR :)

How's your Cupra looking these days?

Cheers Gaz - I dare say Dale would be interested in discussing it with you if you were serious :) He's busy getting his Corsa C20 LET sorted for PV at the moment but always looking for the next project to work on

Awesome stuff though must feel great having it back :D

Hi Robbie, the Mk2 doing less than a 1000mls a year at the moment, the Mk3 not much more, it's just had a shortshift & VT engine mounts fitted. Still undecided between BT & hybrid, following Bill's Lupo thread with great interest & maybe swayed towards that when final results/prices are released.

Cheers mate - tbh if I'm going to go to the trouble of refitting bigger cable I may as well go full bore with 0AWG and be done with it.

Nice one, yeh the 2283 spec k03 hybrids are now looking very promising once again. Depends if you prefer aggressive vs progressive power delivery I guess and how far you want to go.

I run 0 awg through my car yeah it can be a pig to route but it's defenatly got the Csa to handle the ampage with out volt drop
Hardest bit was routing round where the back seats were and into the boot

That should do the job Berg

OK so today Dale replaced my starter motor with a new Bosch one, meaning I could get some more miles back on the car again. Cranks over and starts sooo much better now

Here's how she looked tonight following last weekend's good wash:

WP_000200.jpg

WP_000201.jpg

Following feedback received from the logs posted I went into Lemmiwinks and added 13% fuel to channels 8 & 10 (Primary & Secondary Fuel Tweak)

Here's how it looked before playing with anything, covering the first 150 miles on the new engine:
OEBadger5settings_r.png

After fuel adjustments:
13percentfueladdsettings_r.png

Unfortunately these settings made the car misfire really badly under boost, and almost impossible to modulate the throttle with the car wanting to kangaroo forward, with a strong smell of fuel when pulling up at traffic lights.

A clean VAG-COM scan after just 12 miles showed:
Code:
VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S

Control Module Part Number: 6K0 906 032 AA
  Component and/or Version: 1.8L 20VT EU3 03 0002
           Software Coding: 10500
            Work Shop Code: WSC 12849
2 Faults Found:
16514 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Malfunction in Circuit
        P0130 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17536 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean
        P1128 - 35-00 - -

Not too sure why the ECU logged a lean error when I added 13% more fuel, unless this is a consequence of a f**ked lambda

The pre-cat lambda sensor was replaced not long ago so it appears there's an issue with the wiring somewhere that I need to investigate further - my wideband sensor is also not giving me any readings either at so I'm flying a little blind...

With the car lurching and misfiring all over the place I decided to reset the Primary and Secondary Fuel Tweak channels to 100% and 0% respectively - so 5% more fuel than when last mapped but 8% less than adjusted.

With this change the car instantly transformed and felt strong on boost.

Not too sure where to go from here - perhaps collect a few more logs to see what people think? I've got another 300 miles to cover to run the engine in and want to know it's all OK

When mine used to kick up a lean code it used to be due to the maf not the lambda sensor even though it stated on vag com that the lambda was at fault

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17536/P1128/004392 suggests MAF, lambda or injectors.

Just as long as it's not running too lean - though idles smooth as anything and now I've set Fuel Tweaks to 100% and 0% it seems to pull very well - no more misfiring under load

Will collect a few more logs tomorrow for peace of mind - though the last set showed no signs of detonation. Might also whip the plugs out to inspect their condition

You have a wideband though to see if its lean?

Mine kicked up lamda codes when runing lean, havent had any of them come back since i sorted it.

Car looks perfect in the pics, so easy for people to under estimate it, and then you hit the throttle, SHOCK! ;)

Cheers Berg - exactly the effect I'm going for. It doesn't turn many heads until they hear the transmission whine or spool/dump and then look slightly confused/intrigued.

I do have wideband but the gauge isn't updating as I drive, just stays on 14.6 which isn't right.

As it's the Zeitronix I might see if I can hook up the serial connection directly to the controller and read the voltage - assuming the sensor itself isn't fubar. Hard to tell atm - need to check the wiring underneath.

So.. fired the car up yesterday on the tweaked fuel settings of 100% and 0% (Secondary & Primary Fuel Tweaks) which I'd driven on for ~5 miles OK and while it idles fine there was a lot of soot etc coming out the exhaust:

WP_000203.jpg

WP_000202.jpg

I managed to hook the Zeitronix data logger up to my laptop to monitor AFR directly from the controller, which also showed a constant reading of 14.6 - pointing towards something wrong with my wideband sensor or perhaps the wiring going to it, bearing in mind my nearly new pre-cat lambda is also playing up...

When I tried to take the car out for a few miles to get some logs I got about 20 metres down the road before it refused to drive and conced out on me, refusing to start again. After 10 minutes sat still it would reluctantly start, once I held a few revs to keep it going and then continued to idle fine again. Really starting to piss me off now...

This morning I decided to start back at square one and reset the fuelling to how it was when last mapped:

resetfuel280511_r.png

A fresh VAG-COM scan showed no fault codes. I'll try and take it for a drive later, fingers crossed.

Also ordered a new set of spark plugs and a new wideband sensor just to rule these out.

With what's been coming out of the exhaust (tip is black) and how badly it drove when adding in more fuel I'm not convinced it's running at all lean, as it's clear I can't trust my wideband right now until we replace the sensor and have a look at the wiring.

Will try and get a few more logs on the reset fuelling settings later to see if that sheds any more light. Thoughts/ideas welcome at this point

Rob - my Zeitronix (sensor side of the wiring fast plug is unplugged) and it reads 14.7 on the screen. Maybe unplug yours at the fast plug to see if reads differently  worth a shot I guess.

Cheers Joe - will see what I find when we have a look underneath in the week.

Just fired the car up on the reset fuelling settings (i.e. as it was prior to the rebuild) and it now drives and boosts fine.

So far £40 of VPower has got me 100 miles, mixed driving, lol
