thats shocking. i dont see what the problem is at all to be honest.it annoys me when people get anal like that.I got the same reaction when i was gona join the mg owners club and told them about my plans to 'modernize it, my good god the sados then decided to give me basically death threats. Its his car.at least sticking the car makers badge on is better than sticking random badges on like HKS stickers on corsas etc.best 1 i saw the other day was a clapped out mk4 escort td with a bmw m-sport badge nxt to the td.but i wouldnt do that in fairness.my mapped 140 is more powerful and quicker than an fr but i wudnt badge it up as an FR

I have had a couple of people come up to me in the past on a night out who I haven't seen for years and they've gone "Oh, I've seen you driving around town a few times, you've got one of them Cupra's haven't you?".
The first thing I do is correct them and say "no, it's an FR" and when they ask what the difference is I tell them that it's the model down from the Cupra and it's a TDi. There's nothing at all wrong with having a car which isn't "top spec", I'm quite happy to admit that mine isn't. Yes, I'd love to own a cupra but the mileage I do really doesn't suit a petrol car.

I have Audi RS4 rims, that dosen't mean i wan't to own an Audi RS4, but the rims look cool okay, so take it easy and let the guy style HIS car the way he wants...

Personally, not to my taste, however you aren't claiming your car is an RS4 are you? If you stuck an RS4 badge on the back of your car then yes, it would be the same.
It's as bad at these guys who own a gold GT and glue an "i" badge on, usually wonky and not the same font as the original haha!

You guys are just lucky to live in a country were your cars cost about the same as for me to get an extra soda from the store for crying out loud! With the money we pay for our cars in Denmark, we could all drive a freaking Ferrari, think about that..

WRONG.

In the UK we have a popular TV car consumer show called "Top Gear".

They had a feature on how the UK pay the 2nd / 3rd highest prices for its cars in Europe.
To prove the point, they went across the water to france or germany (cant exactly remember where), and purchased a VW Golf I believe, right hand drive spec, at about a £3000 saving. This saving would also vary from manufacturer/model.

Plus once importing their chosen car into the UK, plus registering it and all the other legalities, they still saved alot of money (a few thousand) over if they had bought that same spec car here locally.

Anyway, whats your original argument got to do with sticking the wrong badge on a Leon? :D

Didn't realise we all judged our cars now by what the badge says on the back?
I actually bought my CUPRA because of the way it looked compared to my old Golf and the power it has, not because it says Cupra on the back?
Some FR owners have put Cupra alloys on their cars, do they not realise they can't do that as it isn't a Cupra?...

We've covered that and it's not the same no. By doing that you aren't saying "hey look everyone read my badge I have a Cupra", you just have 1-2 inch larger wheels that have a Seat "S" on them the same as the stock ones do. A subtle mod that most times is declared to their insurance company, has the OP told his insurance that his neighbor thinks he's driving an FR?

Nath, you are not even owning a Cupra yourself, just a FR, which is money out of the window

I chose not to own a Cupra, yet, my car is still producing 370 hp

Ok then, all FR owners with gloss black Cupra mirror caps and gloss black Cupra grills, take them off.
I wonder if insurance companies know these cars trying to be something it's not?....

bummer, & here's me thinking of going for some gloss black mirror caps & grill & maybe colour co-ordinated sides skirts, lowered on sportlines & maybe some black wheels - humbug :D

but i love the fact that mine's a diesel FR, very proudly keep the FR & red TDi badges sparkling :) & they still will be when I get the car looking as I'D like it to be ha ha ha :D

Oh & yes Danny my Insurance knows all about it :)

danny, I agree, but also nod to what Nath is saying why badge something that it's clearly not.

personally I wouldn't, I take greater pride in upping my car with mods (which in fairness OP is doing) & in showing off what I've done to it as it is rather than pretend it's something that it's not, if that makes sense.

but you're right - his car he can do with it as he wishes :)

No worries. :) Regarding bumpers, have you considered the Aero/BTCC bodykit ?
As featured on the K1, PLUS select Leon Stylance model cars too.

Certainly unique and quite a bold styling statement. Quite different to the FR/Cupra front and rear bumpers, plus you could go the full way and fit sideskirts and rear tailgate spoiler. Plus with those you couldnt be accused of copying an FR or Cupra! :D

Just a thought.

And the Odd FR too ;) lol

if you're wanting to make your car something it's not....why not go the whole hog with a....LEON ST VXR!!

I would have had a Cupra again but they didn't make one with a diesel engine in it on the mk2. My Car has painted black optional 18's and wrapped mirror caps to match but it still says FR TDI on the back and stitched into the front seats thanks all the same. If I had Cupra badge on my boot and refused to admit that it was sad then you could take the piss but.......................next please.

i do strangely like that vxr bumper. i know the real 1 would never fit but i think its suits the leon.

it's the quickest shop i've ever done, so it doesn't look right lol but it did only take me about 5 mins to do!

i did one on a suzuki swift a while ago and it suited that to a tee

hey i like the look of that Nick, you should see if some wacko modder on here fancies making it.

And if he put an 'R' badge on it, would we see more of the cupra R owners complaining too? I think so. I agree completey with Nath, changing the wheels or wing mirrors is completely different to adding an FR badge. The wheels etc are changing a car to suit your tastes, whereas the badge is about identification, and if i remember correctly, you used to get shot for espionage!
