Hi everyone,

I have tried to find the solution to this problem but can't so am hoping someone may have the answer here.

The centre rear passenger belt has become stuck. It is therefore now so tight that I can barely raise the seat after having it laid flat. I can't find anyway of getting to the mechanism that appears to be inside of the back seat. Does anyone know how I can get to it?

many thanks.

DPJ,

Tried that and released what I could. Now it is even worse. I put the seat half way down to give me the most slack possible. Let it go back in and it wouldn't release. Now it's almost impossible to put the seat upright.

Doh!

If you dont use the belt cut it for now or just unbolt it, you can't get at the belt with out a lot of effort and damage to the seat as DPJ said scrap yard or ebay!

I had the same problem some time back. I had to sit there for a while pulling the belt out, feeding it back in, pulling it out more, feeding it back in a bit... and so on. It took a while but eventually it worked well and hasn't been a problem since.

Try and very, very gently and smoothly pull the belt out as far as it will go and see how far you get. You might need to make a few attempts but this worked for me.

Hmm, thanks for the tips guys.

Unfortunately the flippin thing is Soooo tight that I can't get a single bit of slack to play with.

Does anyone know if I cut it or unbolt it from below the seat if the car would fail its MOT because of this? It is the centre belt in the rear.

Cheers.

I have the same problem on the middle rear belt on my 99 Toledo. Must be a common fault. If you unbolt the seatbelt trip at the top of the seat, you can release the belt. There are 4 bolts, each exposed by pushing the seat fabric out of the way where the belt goes into the seat. You'll need a 6mm hex driver.

I don't think it will stop the problem happening again though.

Hi
I had this issue when my LCR was having its MOT...

The guy was going to fail the car because the middle seat belt was stuck...

Two of us, one pulling at the seat belt, the other hitting the rear of the seat to release the crash lock thing.

worked and it passed its MOT :)

Fold it down and slam it back up, there's loads of folk with this problem in vag cars, stupid design flaw somewhere and when I say slam I mean get violent.:D

There is a quick release under the seat for the centre seat belt. Unclip it and then put the seat back in its up right position, then gently pull on the seat belt till the inertia reel releases.
