its slightly higher rated, but a better surge line (in theory)
I doubt the flow potential can be realised but you never know. thats what testing is for.

Interesting on the Largeport vs Smallport discussion - I decided to trade my AGU big port with Tasha on here for the smallport - which will be machined, ported, polished and fitted with Supe***** stainless in and exhaust valves retainers etc, interesting to see what the outcome will be... Updates in due course.

Getting there. Leave the pas pump in the engine bay. Just take the pump off the bracket. Saves buying new fluid :)!

Yer I will do, normally always do that at work too! Not sure why I wrote pipes instead of pump!!! Ah well I blame it on being late ;)

Epic reading!

I've spent about 2 hrs reading this thread, by page 10 I was hooked on a hybrid and 034 manifold, by page 21 the plan had changed totally!

Good to see this type of effort in developing upgrades and I'm learning bits already!

Best of Luck with the next step Robbie! Good to meet you on Sunday, those injectorts are alot healthier than the ones I had on my engine.

Robbie here´s a pic of my new hybrid (vs k03s) witch Im fitting these days along with Bills 3" TIP

ByggingavMotor2010023.jpg

spec is, K03 hybrid with RS6 turbine wheel, uprated thrust, but with 2280 Billet wheel fitted

Bill, what billet wheel will yours be using? I was told by mark @ CR that the 2280 would be the best fit for this hybrid

That hybrid is huge, im guessing that is the new spec a few people have been speaking about on this forum. Mines is at CR getting hybrid just now but i just went for the k04 internals as i dont want the hassle of changing my tip

Thanks James, nice to see people still finding an interest in the work that's been done up to now. The next month or so should see some interesting developments.

I don't recall us ever meeting though? Were you at AutoSport?

Nice one Prebs :)

I checked my existing MD445 hybrid last night and can see I've got an unclipped RS6 turbine wheel which clears that up at least, though I may end up having to get it trimmed depending on further developments from CR etc - pics to follow.

Preb's hybrid uses the 2283 K06 compressors wheel from the K04-064 as fitted to the new Audi S3 and TTS, inside a CNC modified K04 compressor housing that's mated to a K03 hotside with a full trim RS6 turbine wheel.

This is the Gen 1 spec which has since been developed further - though we're yet to get confirmation of the latest proposed spec and potential results while testing continues at Badger5. It's a case of watch this space for the time being as I hold fire before deciding which company and spec to go with.

I also need to get on and order a large port head so if anyone knows of one for sale please get in touch.

I'm currently also in discussions with LOBA Motorsport who are trying to make their name more well known in the UK market, working with a technician who is responsible for designing the MTM/Dahlback RS4 K04 as well as many OE "sports" turbos so he's definitely the man to speak to on the matter.

Last night we managed to make a little more headway with the engine now completely removed from the car and fitted to a stand ready to start removing the head, turbo and manifold.

There's a couple of evident small oil leaks from what looks like worn gaskets, namely the rocker cover and crank sensor which I'll also look to get replaced and I'm tempted to get a Fluidampr crank pulley while it's so easily accessible and need to be removed for the cam belt regardless.

Interestingly we found that my gearbox Vibratechnics engine mount was missing one of the mounting bolts which may account for some of the judder I was getting - the remaining bolt was only finger tight and I remember us torquing both up at the time. They've obviously worked their way loose over time with vibration. I also need to look at sheathing the gearbox cables with some heat resistant material as they're showing signs of melting near the downpipe where there's not a lot of space down there.

With the engine removed we also managed to get the gearbox separated from the block, ready to take apart on Saturday to remove the Peloquin diff ready to send off to SQS and try to inspect the damage that's been done - could be interesting.

Pics to follow within the next couple of days :)

Such a great project this mate ive learnt so much about the hybrids in this thread haha my turbo is with CR just now getting the hybrid treatment i decided to just go with the 04 compressor though as these new models sound as though the pipework will need modified and id prefer to just stick with the simple plug and play hybrid.

How much of a difference do you feel going from stage2 to a hybrid anyways Robbie can you remember your intitial thoughts? I just hope its money well spent for me.

I went from Revo 1 to hybrid so the difference was nothing less than huge.

Yes it's still ultimately a K03 shell but the internals make for a very different animal.

As a comparison, a friend of mine owns a Subaru Forester with the Prodrive pack, making ~250 BHP and similar torque. On Revo 1, with full exhaust and TIP we would level peg in almost every power range - mine spooling just ever so slightly earlier.

After the initial hybrid work was completed we both went out on a drive purely to benchmark the relative before/after difference.

The result? I left him for dead - it was truly surprising just how much of a gap there was and how quickly I created it. Day and night difference

Big jump for you then. Well thats good to hear just hope i dont regret making this decision as i had looked at a GT2860RS but it was too much hassle having to change downpipe and IC pipework etc so opted for the hybrid.

Wish i could get Bill to map mine but unfortunately a 760 mile round trip is a bit much for me especially after the hybrid is on fuel would be costly haha

Well i hope all goes well with your new hybrid as its gonna be a monster :D

Apologies

Sorry Robbie,

I posted in your thread instead of another Robbie, based here in Ireland too. He's doing a hybrid project too and is having a few "issues" with his turbo.

Sorry for hijacking this thread - good reading though!! Keep it coming

No it´s not! it´s fitted with the 2280 billet wheel:)

Dont think this turbo setup will require largeport head as I think the hot side beeing to restictive, time will show thou:)

I´ll even be running forgen cooler to start with and take it from there. Right now Im fidling with the 3" TIP witch is HUGE in the ibiza bay.
