312mm brake upgrade - a warning

Just a note worth making to anyone planning on the above upgrade to their FR/Cupra or Boca.

Despite the O.E calipers being ATE items they are NOT compatible with the TT 312mm carriers. The standard calipers are different and the pads do not match the carrier. It leads to a gap in between the caliper and the pad meaning they aren't secure and when you fit the correct pad retaining spring it pulls the caliper over leaving a gap between the pad and disc so you get nothing on the first press of the pedal.

So if you want to upgrade which is very worthwhile IMHO then you need calipers, carriers, springs and discs and pads.

Hope this helps and you can avoid the ball ache I've had for the last week.

But any of the usual 312mm sets will fit same as the Mk4 Ibiza.

So Audi TT, S3, Anni Golf, Leon Cupra, Octavia vRS etc etc.

Plenty of sets on ebay.

I fitted them for Ed, bolt straight on with the 312mm discs and even standard lines fit.

Go under Sira wheels obviously.

Easy, 312mm brakes go under 16" wheels.

Calipers however may vary if your thinking four pots.

ABS sensor works off the wheel bearing so if you dont change the hub you havnt got a prob. Ive got a boca an i really need some better brakes. I understand the 312mm conversion is good but wat is it off an has anyone got any vag numbers? I work for seat an wouldnt mind gettin some brand spankers. I know leon is reduntant cus i have measured them and they are running the same as a mk2 octi vrs ie too big.
Thanks
Phil
