Idle Reving after cleaning Throttle Body APQ Engine

Hi I have a 98' Seat Ibiza 1.4 apq engine.

Recently I took the throttle body out and gave it a clean. Aligned it with vag-com.

Let the engine run for about 5mins after doing this, then took it for a spin.

Seemed to drive fine. However on idle it revs quite high then goes back to normal again.

Bit confused what it could be - will I need a new throttle body? Some peope have mentioned an Idle Control Valve and this could be stuck. Not sure where this is located on the throttle body. I was wondering if it can be cleaned or not, if it is that?

Thanks for the advice. Had a look round today. Took the airbox off. Sprayed Wd40 around the pipes - nothing. Then realized that there was a pipe going to the bottom of the airbox I had not connected.
So I thought that must have been the problem. Gave it a drive round the block and still high reving on idle. It then goes back to normal after about 10-15seconds.
Got Vag-com out and gave it another re-align as I had move the butterfly a couple of times.
Will go out in it again later but think I have still got the same problem.

So maybe there is another vac pipe i havnt spotted or a split somewhere else.
Or the idle control valve?

yep you need, here is the screens you need to click on;

Go into fault codes make sure it is clear;

[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Measuring Blocks - 08]
type in 098
[Go!]
[Switch to basic settings]

you will then see ADP OK change to ADP run in right hand corner.

Hope that helps.

I am still having the same problems with high reving on idle has anyone got anymore ideas, thanks

is this the same procedure on all engine codes as pete has a 2.0l 16v and you obviously have an APQ??

that pipe in the bottom of the air box is the oil breather pipe and doesnt make a difference pluged in or out, just make your car stink when stood still if its out and makes the engine bay dirty...

Can you hear your fuel pump?

I Was told it was the fuel pump, but i could hear it starting up perfect.
So if u can hear ur fuel pump working.

Have you used Throttle body cleaner?
it'll clear out the system as it could be gunk just sitting the pipes.

used carb cleaner from halfords. Not sure about the fuel pump - can hear something when i turn the ignition to position 2. It was'nt high revving on idle before i took out the throttle body to clean it. Which pipes would need cleaning out. I checked all the pipes today but coudnt see any leaks. Gonna buy a new throttle body gasket / o-ring tommorow.
Will try adjusting the throttle cable tommorow to see if that helps.

running out of ideas now. maybe buy another throttle body

i have this problem well had it. All i did was spray carb cleaner down the throttle body with the engine running and controlling the throttle with the cable in the engine bay. Also I changed the idle control valve and i've never had the problem again. You could try cleaning the Idle control valve with petrol or something

I had a look in there and it was clean.

I do remember going through a deep puddle last year and the engine stalled and I coudnt re-start if for 1/2 hour. I think water have got in somewhere and cause damage?
