I had a VW key when I bought my LCR, it only lasted about 6 months and died on me. I bought 1 off ebay at the correct mhz but couldn't get it programmed to my car, I tried everyway that I could find. Then my alarm decided to play up coz my fob wasn't working ( just setting off on its own, also driving down the road with my alarm blaring. I took it to Seat dealer in Bury ( nearest to me because my local VW dealer told me that they didnt have the fob program for Seats
). They told me the keyfob I had was the wrong fob for the car and told me I needed a new keyfob (flipkey), they charged me around £80 for the keyfob but told me that they had to get it from Germany because no Seat dealer in the UK had the keycutting machine and only Germany had the machine
They rang me to tell me that the car was ready after having the car for 1 week, so I got my mum to run me over to Bury to pick my car up. When I was paying the £126 bill ( £80 for the keyfob and £46 for putting it on the diagnostics machine ) I heard a car alarm sounding which sounded very similar to mine. The Seat technician walked into the reception with a very red face and told me he couldn't turn my alarm off and I would have to leave the car with them so they can put it back on the diagnostic machine, so off I went back home not impressed. The day after Seat rang me and told me it was my bonnet sensor that kept setting the alarm off but they had to order the sensor because they didn't have it in stock. 4 days later they rang me again to tell me the car was ready to pick up, so off I went to my mums to get another lift over to Bury. Got there, sat in reception and heard this very similar alarm sounding again, once again the technician walked in and told me the alarm was still faulty, so back home I went with my mum. Later that day Seat rang me again to inform me that it was the alarm siren that was faulty and causing the error and again they had to order it because they didn't have it in stock. After another week of waiting Seat rang me again to tell me that the alarm was still faulty and the diagnostic machine kept bringing up different fault codes everytime they plugged it in, so they came to the conclusion that it was my ECU and it would cost me £475 for a new ECU, by this time I was so naffed off that i told them to just get the damn thing ordered, get it on my car and get it sorted and asked roughly how much my bill would work out at....The guy said " oh, about £600 " so I told him to go ahead. 1 week later Seat rang me to tell me the car was ready to pick up finally, I was overjoyed and set off over to Bury with my mum chauffering immediately. Got there, sat in reception waiting to pay my bill. Saw the nice lady I had to pay and she got my paperwork out of the draw and proceeded to tell me £876 please sir. I was like
, I think you have made a mistake love, she assured me that she hadn't and by this time I had my voice raised and the manager heard me getting vexxed and came out of his office to see what the
problem was. He then informed me that the extra £200 was for the parts that they had already fitted unsuccessfully to resolve the alarm fault. I was flabbergasted and told him to take the parts off the car because the original parts wasn't faulty ! After I was shouting in the middle of the showroom for 10 mins and everybody staring at us the manager decided to knock all the unnecessary labour time off the bill and that brought it down to £650 which I agreed to pay
Anyhow, sorry for waffling on but just thought I would share my experience with my keyfob/alarm
