your poor engine must have been screaming though! i have drove a 1.2 clio and it was slow as f*ck and everything seemed to vibrate when you get to 70 mph, and that was the new shape one lol

i was about to change because it was just above the redline but then my mother was the one screaming! and well his is pretty rapid...he said he went home one say and 'tweeked' it - and he hasnt told anyone what he did to it except 'clean' it....hmm not entirely sure how much of that is true.

cant wait til i can drive on my own then i shall see what my lil 1.2 can do....i'm impressed so far though. New Air-filter shall be ordered at the end of the month along with FR grilles :)

tbh its your first car so its going to feel quick lol! my first car was a 1.7cdti astra, it was fairly quick for a first car tbh, plenty of torque but it suffered many problems so i plumped for a 1.4 100hp which is fine if you want to be revving all the time but is tiresome for the commute to work plus i am bored of it and all the probs i have had with it as well. Is your mate a mechanic?, perhaps he has changed the engine in his car for something larger and not told the insurance, think the term is red topping?

na he isnt a mechanic...and he hasnt got the money for that - its not so quick that you think something big has happened but you can tell something is a bit more powerful in his lil 1.2 engine.

what else would improve my cars power/acceleration just a little bit?? new air filter anything else? i heard better spark plugs might work

tbh honest nothing that you are going to notice. You could spend hundreds of pounds on induction kits, air filters, exhaust and remap but the gains you are going to get are maybe 8bhp which will barely be noticable, you cant get huge gains from an engine without some sort of turbo. You may as well keep your car serviced and get some nice wheels and lower it untill you can afford a car with real performance. That way the engine will perform at its best and your car will look the part.

Also, i doubt whether your mate will have done anything to his car, he was probably just ragging the engine to within an inch of its life!

ah right, so just swallow my pride and stick with it until my insurance starts to come down - and wouldnt surprise me...although it is the quickest out of all my mates cars (1.2 punto, 1.4 206 Quicksilver, 1.6 Golf Mk3 & a fiesta) - ha ha you can imagine our school car park ;)

85 in 4th... I told my dad off for doing that in my car! Change gear you fool! :p

Absolutely no point in doing any engine mods mate, not worth it at all. Make it look mint, it'll never be fast.

Better spark plugs are a con mate, a spark is a spark end of story, no one spark is better than another spark. More expensive plugs may last longer though, but to be honest with the price of them it isn't worth it. You'd be better just buying genuine spark plugs (Bosch) and putting the extra money into something to make the car look better.

If you want to make your car go any faster, all you can do is fit a panel filter from either K&N, Pipercross or BMC (cone ones usually actually give you less power, as most people don't provide them with a cold air intake, thus the air feeding the filter is shitty warm air) and fit a stainless steel exhaust. Even with this you're only looking at 5 more bhp maximum, so it's a lot of money for not very good gains.

I've never bothered ragging mine to over the redline... even in the car handbook it tells you not to, so as to avoid possible engine damage.

When trying to boot it, I rev up to 4-4.5k in each gear, but find it pulls very nicely at around 70-75 in 5th anyway :)

And I dunno how you had the balls to do that with your mum in the car

When I was learning I usually stuck to about the speed limit, if not 5mph over sometimes. However, I guess I kinda thought they'd lynch me for dodgy driving. My dad's a Ferrari racing instructor, and he's always told me to keep fast driving to the circuit, as driving in a straight line proves nothing; however I guess sometimes I can't resist a nice speedy getaway

A couple of times that my mum has driven me home in my car (after some lashed up parties..), even when cruising she changes at 4k, and I have a go at her; and often for driving too close.. Both my blimmin parents do lol.

Oh, and I don't have spacers :D

To be honest if you go beyond the red line you've stopped accelerating as quickly as you could, as you've missed the correct time to change gear. So really you'd be going slower than you could have done despite being in the red line.

erm, well it was just do it and hope my mum doesnt realise how fast we actully were going...wanted her to think we were only doing about 70 ish - silly me!! i've never gone into the redline/area however have been at the very tip of 5.5k - so just before the redline starts.....not sure how much my car will take, although the temperture gauge didnt move so thats a bonus :)

you mean you changed up lol, otherwise your engine would prob not exist right now lol

If i am booting it i usually rev up to 5k (redlines at 6.5k). I find my car pulls much harder after 4k for some reason.
When my mum or dad is in the car, i drive like miss daisy lol, but when there gone i like to drive a bit fastet but not excessively so

Your mum runs you home from parties lol! I would not be having that, dont like my mum and dad seeing me drunk ha ha!

Haha, well I've been to a few parties and driven back in the morning when I'm 100% sober (have a small breathalyser to keep in the glovebox just in case, by a company called AlcoSense). But generally if I want to get trashed, I want to keep on the safe side and not take the risk...

Check my reader's ride btw, you might be inspired by 1 or 2 things

Don't worry I won't drink and drive- wouldn't risk it. Shall read it again tomorrow but have read it and your car looks good.....I know your car doesn't have it but do they make rear fr lights with a black surround??
