I have a couple of weeks off to sort a few things out on the car so started with removing the head so I can build up and fit my large port head, I have aslo changed the clutch to a setup recommended by Caney so hoping that is going to work out ok... 6 speed quattro boxes aren't much fun to remove :(

Old small port head sat next to the lovely large port head waiting to go on...

Gearbox ready to come out... removed the subframe (plus a load of other stuff) to get it out...

...gearbox out but in hindsight it would have been easier to remove the bevel box first as that really got in the way... removed it to refit though and the box went straight in...

...stripped the old head of the cams, followers and VVT tensioner and fitted them all in the large port head...

Now some bad news... on removing the turbo I discovered that the turbine housing had cracked...

Bill has spoken to Mark at CR Turbos though and he thinks he ca sort it out and we also discovered the turbo isn't a special item but is known as a 'compact GT30'... it has the GT3071R comp wheel but a smaller trim turbine which is why we can't seem to get the figures we thought out of the engine... Mark has said he can upgrade the turbo to a full spec turbine while keeping the same size housings... should be able to get a bit more out of the turbo then...

More stuff to do including changing the FMIC charge pipework from 51mm to 60mm and fitting the super size DV etc... also found more oil than I would like in the TIP from the PCV system so I am going to fit a catch can and be done with it.. only want clean air going into the turbo!!

Should also be picking up the adaptor plate for the R32 throttle body I have acquired so I can fit it to my std mani for now... a SEM would be nice but thats out the window now the turbo needs to be fixed...

Ah well, gotta love tuning cars!!!

Nice update, i have a spare r32 tb hanging around and was going to contact Forge for an adapter, where are you getting yours from and are you going to cnc out the mouth of the stock mani (70mm maybe) to take advantage of the larger TB. Didn't i read somewhere before that Bill can maybe port the stock mani runners a little.

I have a man making the adaptor with the plan that if it works then Bill may well stock a few... the adaptor is going to taper to 70mm and which point I will grind/port the stock mani to take the step out... as these mani's are all small port I will be using my phenolic spacer to transition from the SP mani to the LP head... I will remove a little material from the mani ports but I don't think there is much to work with there tbh... it will have to do though as I can't stretch to a SEM just yet :(

The biggest ball ache I have found with the R32 TB is getting a bit of sodding silicon that will fit over it... its 85mm and most decent makes are 83mm or 86mm and above... gonna try an 83mm 90 degree elbow which I then have to reduce to 60mm for my charge pipe :(

Don't most hose manufacturers make custom hoses if you pay the price? I'm sure sfs could do something to make their hoses stronger if requested, more plies or maybe steel reinforcing, I only mention steel reinforcing due to watching fred dibnah visiting a hose manufacturers on some junk daytime tv.

Gutted to hear your news about the housing, but as always, onwards and upwards and the updates are great as always.

When did you last have some? The ones we have been using have been great and not soft at all. You can also spec them to be wire reinforced.

customer cars which have come in with them... all very soft sfs hoses, almost as soft as the rubber shyte they're supposed to be an upgrade for. I would never personally use silicon hoses which were so soft. sfs have all been soft the ones i have seen.

the t3t04 57trim i did on 0.63 hotside also spooled initially 1bar by 3500rpm... external gated tho

Busy day, fitted the bevel box back in and refitted the subframe.... picked up some more parts this morning including the adaptor plate for the R32 throttle body to fit the std manifold...

...it has been made to taper (sort of) to 70mm and as you can see you will need to remove some material... could have got it sized to fit but kinda defeats the object...

...once more or less to size I fitted the adaptor and matched it up as best I could...

...then started on the phenolic spacer and opened the ends of the runners a bit... I didn't do loads here as the tools I have aren't man enough really and its still only a small port manifold but it makes the transition from small to large a little better...
