Tubro Timer 1.8T

Hello

Is it essential to have a turbo timer on the 1.8T? if so what does everyone use? generic universal or certain branded. :smoke: ?

My mates keep saying that i should get one, cause they have them on their starlets and skylines...japcrap. I know the point of them to cool down the turbo once the you turn off the car.

But someone correct me if im wrong, VAG 1.8T is watercooled...so once you turn engine off if the turbo is still hot water is pumped round to cool it round?? so no need for turbo timer.

Im new to turbo engines and German cars in general so can anyone help me silence them, or put me straight

They have a secondary water pump to cool down the turbo. But a lot of people just let the engine idle for a couple of mins to cool down.
Or just go steady for a couple of miles before you get to ya where u are going.

Plus as jamie said they fail , they will unlock your car for you so you still have to wait for it to turn off to lock it so you may as well sit in the car , or not rag the grannies out of it befor you stop

It's illegal to leave a car running unattended thats why

REALLY?? You dont see people getting 'done' for that when they leave there car running in the winter and it gets nicked, just a 'dont be stupid again' from the police and a big 'F YOU' from the insurance company (if you dont get the car back). BTW i dont leave my car unattended whilst running but was just intrigued!

I looked into this but it also causes havoc with the alarm and immob! Much easier to just let it warm up and cool down while sat or stood near it.

Mods to do - swap your lovely yellow LCR bumpers for custom style ones? then sell me urs as im in Winch and wouldnt have to paint them! hahahahaha!

On a + note, you got a big garrett turbo in yet? surely thatll be high on the "to do" list ;)

you're fine if the car is on private property and running with no-one in it. but you can definately get done for leaving it running with no-one in it on a public road coz me and 2 mates got told off after stopping for a leak in a layby!!

i did wonder about a turbo timer too though, but if these cars dont need them (i;d never switch off straight from a thrashing anyway) then I wont bother. I also park with car in gear too...!

Plus after a track session you dont leave the handbrake on anyways, so still gota wait for it to cool - turn it off, leave it in gear - H/brake off and walk away!

yeah i had remote start on a old car once. if you remote-started it, then someone set the alarm off or pressed the clutch down without the key the engine would stop (clifford alarm - yes yes i know now!!! lol)

They don't go well on these cars herd problems such as unlocking the doors when they cut out and others I know seat gooner has one but he can't lock the car till it's turned off so you might aswel just sit there instead lol ;)
