I spoke to CR Turbos today and they said they can upgrade the compressor wheel on my GT2860RS to the 71mm version of the GT2871R to turn my turbo into a GT2871R for £215 (which includes the new compressor, machining and balancing).

Should I have it done or not? I'd like to aim for around 375bhp.

That's what i want to find out, if I'm already running around 320bhp then the 60RS may only give me a 25bhp boost, but the 71R would be more like 50bhp more. But if it makes it more laggy then the 60RS may be the better all-rounder.

Rob, I'd worry that the 60 wouldn't be enough of a raise in power to make it worth while
I'd imagine a GT2871r like turbo with better spool would be as good as you would want in a FWD car.
This way you might finally be finished with this one last push

My thinking too, with new cars such as the new Cupra and R, plus others like the Focus RS making 360+bhp with some easy bolt-ons, I want to really sort my car out with some real power once and for all. I've always only ever made small increases in power, if I go GT2871R and get it up to around 375bhp I think I'd be very happy with every aspect of the car. I don't think the 60RS would be much of a jump in power, so I think I'm going to do it! :D

This weekend I'm cleaning up some of the 2nd-hand parts I got from Backdraft. So I've been rubbing down, cleaning and re-painting some parts and polishing others.

Using this paint (which is SO easy to use, no primer needed):

I rubbed down, cleaned, masked then sprayed these parts:

I also cleaned up the coolant lines and gave the banjos a very quick polish:

More soon! :)

rob where did you get that paint from? halfrauds etc?

I need to redo my engine cover in a high temp gloss black paint instead of normal black paint! and I see it says up to 260c on the can! :)

how much was it too?

cheers

Today I started stripping down the turbo, manifold, etc. in preparation for fitting the BDM stuff. (you'll see parts in the 'for sale' section) I also sent off the manifold and downpipe to Zircotec to be ceramic coated. I have chosen 'sterling silver' as the performance colour of choice, to match my intake manifold.

I thought about using 'Black Performance' but I'm not convinced of their coating, plus I took a drive out and found their premesis to be a farm building in the middle of nowhere! Zircotec have a good reputation and are well established, so i'm using them.

Once the parts are back the build up will begin! :D

Judgeth not the book by its cover, Rob. The 3 most skillful mechanics I've ever known have operated from the shadiest looking garages you could imagine.

First impressions count for alot to me.

I have removed my old turbo kit, last thing to come off is the Milltek DP. Zircotec have my new manifold and DP just now ceramic coating them, once back the build up starts. Thankfully I found nothing wrong with anything when I removed it all, everything looks as it should.

I took a pic of the GT2X along side the GT2860RS, it's only a little bit smaller and the compressor wheel is almost the same size!

But from a different angle the GT2860RS looks a fair bit bigger!
