Redline problem

well basiclly if i have my throttle 1/4 way it will redline but if i press anymore than that it just at about 5k or 6k.
the car runs fine with no missfire etc ticks over nice and the car car had a full service last ie.dizzy,coil,leads and oil etc.
i got told that maybe its down to the tps sensor wich i think its the one at the back of the trottle body.
if so then is it surpose to come off easy?because i wiggled it to see if was on safe and it came off but went back on like its got a magnet if thats makes sence at all.
any idea welcome cheers
