Ok so my car is now fooked up.

I made sure I was not connected to the internet.

I followed the vag com guide in the FAQ section and attempted to disable the cold bulb checking for my LED sidelights, changed the coding by just one digit and hit "DO IT" it came up with "this function requires a license interface"

after playing with this vag-com malarky and getting nowhere I now have the following problems.

no interior lights
no remote locking
no bluetooth
no radio
no heated seats

and my mileage display says TRA instead of numbers.

Do you reckon that a dealer will be able to see that I have plugged onto it?

BTW I have checked all fuses and they're ok.

OK so the clue was in the "TRA"

I foolishly managed to enable TRANSPORT mode, this locks down the functions listed above and seems to pause the mileage counter (Odometer)

Aww thats a shame. I did think it was a bit too good to be true. I guess it's little things like that that makes the VW's and Audis that bit more expensive.

So you drove somewhere and the mileage stayed on what you left it on? Surely its logged somewhere else too?

Enabling Gauge Test/Needle Sweep
This will sweep the gauge needles through their full range automatically when you start the engine.

[Select]
[17 - Instruments]
[Coding - 07]
[Long Coding Helper]
Click on each of the Byte numbers in step 3) and you'll see the selectable options below.
Check the box for "Gauge Test/Needle Sweep active"

Close the Long Coding Helper by clicking the Windows X box on the top right of the screen or clicking the Exit button on the top left of the screen) will send your new Coding value back to the Coding screen.
[Do It!]

Anyone know if this is possible on Leons?

I dont recall seeing that option or text, and i went through every option last night with a fine tooth comb looking for wiper drop tear...

NEW CODE!

Ok, had some proper time spent playing around with vag com and made (for me anyway) a great discovery.

I now have a washer bottle empty indicator, on the standard dash! WOOHOO!

Went in to section 17 - Instruments
Then in to Coding
Clicked on the coding entry box, which brings up the "guide" showing all the values
Switched off the seatbelt warning ping as per the guide (changed 2 to 0)
Noticed the entry for washer bottle indicator, thought what the hell and gave it a go
(set the relevant digit to +4 - same digit as the seatbelt warning, which then became 4 - or 6 if you want the annoying seatbelt ping left on)

As it happens my washer bottle emptied yesterday and hadnt had chance to fill it up (and was yet again annoyed at the lack of indicator).....

And guess what, it bloody worked. I now have a washer bottle level indicator showing that I need to top it up

For me this is worth the cost of the cable by itself. I'm well chuffed!

Oh and if anyone discovers how to turn off the damn teardrop function on the front wipers can they let me know. I cant find anything anywhere for front wipers. I found teardrop for the rear wiper but nothing for the front.

Hi there, There is a chance you may be dissapointed. I beleive non-xenon cars and cars that dont have headlight washers, do o have a fluid level sensor, so the low level light will stay on permanantly. I found this with my car. Let us know how you get on. Ive added that note to my guide.

It is certainly possible to fit a sensor though.

EDIT: ive judt read youve found it doesnt work! ;)

As per the thread title, I think all coding things should go in the vag-com thread as I check that regularly. And this thread should stay related to the cheap cable.

Whats the teardrop function?

I just took the rear wiper motor out :D

Tear drop function is the after wipe a few seconds after the normal wash wipe to catch any [tear]drops.

I find it annoying too so will try and find a way to turn it off.

I'm 99% sure that I did about 25-30 miles and the odometer did not count them up. Thinking about, it brand new cars from the factory would have this enabled to stop them counting up miles at the docks, on-off the boats, on off the transporters, around car parks etc before the customer takes delivery.

Maybe techie will be able to confirm/deny this.

i though that lot was counted in what they call "Delivery Miles"

I'm not saying that I'm 100% correct here. Without enabling it again and taking pics of before/after I can't honestly say. However, When transit mode was enabled my odometer displayed "TRA" instead of numbers

BTW I have enabled leaving home. Disabled bulb failure warnings (for my LED sidelights). Enabled the alarm chirp and disabled the 15MPH auto lock. £25 well spent IMO.

Can you confirm there is no error light shown using normal LED's then rather than using Can-Bus LED's?

Im guessing even tho the Odometer isnt shown it will still count up on the background,if not then so many people would be doing this now

When i was messing with VAG COM last week, i did come across a bit where i could change the odometer! Didnt want to mess with it, but it said something like, you can make one change before 60,000 miles or something along thoe lines.

Glad it was a simple fix for you Nath.

I ordered up struts and they are waiting for me at home, so i should have reliable auto opening boot again soon!

I wouldnt even go near the mileage adjustment stuff just in case next time i take it into seat they thinks i've clocked it. I'm more interested in switching on stuff that you get on the audis/vw's we dont get :D

The bulb failure check is to pulse a low voltage to all lights 5 times. When you fit LED's of any type, due to the fact that they respond to a lower voltage they will actually flash 5 times when the check is done. Normal fillament bulbs do not flash as they need the full voltage to illuminate.

I can confirm that my LED's no longer flash 5 times when I put the ignition on. I also have not seen a bulb faulure warning all day, this would normally come up every time I put the ignition on but clear when the side lights are switched onn/off.

I am quite confident that LED's of any type will work now.

Got cable in post yesterday - as it turns out it says its 812.3 or something version (not 704.1).

I havent tried it yet because I go away for a weekend and need to make sure my car reliably will take me to the airport so I'll try changing few settings next week.

By the way, how are we getting on with finding longer STRUTS for boot lid opening? Any joy anyone?
