By the way, how are we getting on with finding longer STRUTS for boot lid opening? Any joy anyone?

Yeh mate. I got my new struts, from Struts Direct. I ordered them to 600NM but turns out that its a bit much. So what i have done is thrown one of the new struts on the car, along side a standard one, and it works a treat.

Reason i went for 600NM is because the guys on the spanish site were buying the 550NM ones, and with us being in a colder climate, i though we would need that extra oompf!

So basically, if someone was to go and order up two of their own, i advise them to get something around 500-550NM (The Fabia struts are 500NM)

So if anyone wants to do what i have done, then i have a spare strut for sale. I paid £50 in total for them, so if someone wants to come pick it up, then i'll take £20.

And just to say, we only need the struts. Our ball pins are ok, and the Buffers we have are probably better than the others, as ours are spring loaded, so they help the hatch open.

Heres a video i just took (Uploading onto YouTube too):

Its worth the risk :p.

If you are worried about the height, then get the Fabia struts, they are 60mm shorter, and the boot doesnt open as far. (Although they are a severe head hitting hazard as i found out several times!!)

Excuse my lack of knowledge in the category of boot struts but all you're doing is swapping one of the struts for a more powerful one? Is there any other hardwre that need doing to make it work or is it a simple swap?

simple swap and also enabling a code on the vagcom vcd by default it does not fully unlock the catch however you can change this and make it fully open and having more power struts the boot opens fully (hope thats the answer your looking for :) )

Yeh guys, all ive changed is the struts for more powerfull ones. No other mods.

I was a bit worried about it being the powerfull strut on one side, so im going to send them back and get two at 520NM, and see how they are.

I got them at the EXACT same length as standard. If you are wanting to order a set let me know and i will post up the exact strut Part numbers and end fittings etc.

The other (cheaper) option, is find out what OEM struts are 500mm long and have a force of 500NM. They will be cheaper than strutsdirect.

bloody hell - i need your help guys.

installed 704.1 and changed hosts file (hell even disconnected internet)
cable was detected and had 3 ok's in test. I could read fault codes and enter adaptation but when tried to save I was getting an error that I need licenced product for that.

installed 812.4 and it also worked the same - can read but can't save...

started shuffling drivers around (manually pointing to vcds folder etc) and now I'm getting interface not found message....

where am I going wrong?

For the struts:

Go to:
www..strutsdirect.co.uk/components/fixed-force-gas-struts-sd02-range.php?products_id=1080

[0] Gas Strut Type: Fixed Force Gas Strut - F-SD02-200
[1] Force N (Newtons): **Between 500-550NM**
[2] Rod End Fitting: Steel Ball - SBJ7
[3] Tube End Fitting: Steel Ball - SBJ7
[4] Rod End Bracket: Not requiered
[5] Tube End Bracket: Not requiered.

Total should be £35.72, £6.96 P+P, £7.47 VAT = £50.14

The combination of the strut length along with the end fittings, makes the struts prefect size for size of our standard ones.

I suggest people wait and see how i get on with the 520NM struts, hopefully they will be ok.

Running windows 7 and i cannot save the host file, i can not find an option to open it under admin. Tried saving the file to the desktop and then copy and paste to the correct destination but it is shown as a text file.
How can i open the host file as an admin.
