I used to have that Awesome ECS magnetic sump plug, it was good at being magnetic but crap at being used! First up the head is tiny compared to a normal sump plug, something like 14mm and secondly it appears to have been made using butter or something equally as strong. Mine completely rounded off (was using a good quality ratchet spanner not some crappy adjustable or anything) and needed to be pursuaded to come out with a drill!

Definitely not recommended by me...

I'm not going to voice my opinions on the different engine mounts on Rob's thread but would say that if you have a problem with the clutch housing its a matter of time before you need a new/undamaged one.

As I have said these will not be able to be picked up second hand without a gear box as the clutch housing is the sealing part of the gear box its self.

Yep, completely rounded off on mine too! Magnetic it is, but the metal is as good as a chocolate fire guard

good stuff Rob. Next tyres I really, really, recommend the vredestiens. I think theyre a bit cheaper than Goodyears aswell, we sell them cheaper anyway.

Give us a shout if you need any prices, but you would have to sort your own courier, so might not be worth it....

hey rob how did you attach the lower central grill you made (middle) going to do my intercooler tommorow and have the mesh so was just wondering how you removed the old one and fitted the new. Thanks in advance

Well not sure what's wrong but I have a tapping coming from my engine, it seems to be coming from the bottom end at the oil pump side but it's hard to tell. I hope it's not a rod bearing but I have a gut feeling it is something like that and I'll have to tear the engine down again.

Does it go away when you depress the clutch?

No it doesn't, I tried that but it's still there.

I wonder if it could be the fluidampr crank pulley? Doubt it as it's filled with gel.

Well after searching for answers and watching vids on youtube of rod knock, spun bearings, belt tensioners and cam chain tensioners all going wrong and the sounds they make - it seems very much like it's the cam chain tensioner that is failing on mine (it is 9 years old!), so I am going to get a new tensioner and chain (in case the old one has stretched) and hopefully that will fix it.

Yes, brand new oil pump and I also cleaned out the pickup pipe before refitting too.

Oil pressure and temp are both normal so I don't think it's the pump.

Nice one! Oil pump I was told as a rule of thumb should be replaced on an engine rebuild and this obviously based on the number of years the engine has been run and millage....

Finger crossed, Let’s hope its only a Cam Tensioner problem. They don’t come cheap.

Yeah I saw that, good writeup, will use that.

I was told a new VVT tensioner was around £300 ... ! BUT - I managed to find someone selling a new one for £155 and it comes with the compression tool and new gaskets, so result. Just need a new chain and I can do the job.

That is not expensive from the main dealers or even TPS (need a traders account for that)
