FINALLY ................ Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics are becoming available again, I spotted them on Mytyres and emailed them asking if they had them in stock, they said yes, so I've ordered 4!

A friend of mine picked up 4 last week. Says they are great so far.

You must be able to change engine mounts in 5 mins by now Rob!

I got the THS mounts fitted today, all 3 including the dogbone. I see what Willie means about the front bush of the INA dogbone being soft, it is! I fitted the Superpro void fill bush into the THS dogbone mount and now it is significantly stiffer, the rubber bush was stiffer than the INA mount anyway. Will give driving impressions tomorrow.

Sadly I have found 3 holes with stripped threads on my car, parts were previously fitted by Star, 3 loose bolts around the engine which will not tighten, so I am going to have to revisit these and fix them with helicoils or something.

Get some of these RobDon, a lot better than helicoils

I can now offer my driving impressions of the THS mounts having been out for a drive in different conditions - fast, slow, country road, city traffic, etc.

The THS mounts are very good, definately stiffer than INA/034 street density and not as stiff or harsh as the track density mounts, they sit inbetween them. There is NO increase in vibration or noise, the best way to describe the THS mounts are tight and sporty. Gearchanges feel smooth, everything feels nice and tight without being harsh at all. Even with the Superpro void fill bushes in there is no vibration. Overall I give the THS mounts 9 out of 10 - great for all but the harshest of driving styles.

For 99% of us I'd say the THS mounts are spot on, even for the odd trackday or 1/4 mile.

(I've never tried Vibra Technics mounts so cannot comment on them, they are very expensive though compared to the THS mounts, almost twice the price.)

Better still, if you use the code SCNFR3CMP you'll get £49 off the price of all 3 THS mounts, mine cost £163.63 including VAT and delivery for all 3 mounts! :D

IMO INA really need to upgrade the front bush of their street and track density dogbone mounts - very soft indeed.

interesting read Rob, makes my choice more tricky having got the INA's from you :)
I'm sure the brand new set will last longer than the ones you had previously.

Would keeping the powerflex DBM be a good compromise with the street engine mounts ?

Thanks Rob, inserts ordered. Any tips for popping the small bracket off the centre bush so the inserts can be fitted?

Cheers, Myles

TBH I only fitted the upper bush insert. I wanted to try that first just in case the poly inserts on both sides was too harsh and caused vibrations. With the upper void fill bush fitted and torqued up, the black metal bracket was very stiff indeed, sigificantly more than standard, so at the moment I don't feel the need to fit both as their is no vibration and it feels alot more robust.

Excellent news :)

Having read most of this thread now, I can't wait to see the car in the flesh as it were.

Seems now really is the time for you to enjoy all the hard work as the car looks pretty much as sorted as a road car needs to be [B)]

Thanks! :D

I had success with a helicoil kit today. Got a kit from ebay and tackled one of the holes with stripped threads. Quite easy to do really - using the supplied parts in the kit, I drilled out the old threads, tapped new threads, wound in the helicoil insert, re-fitted the part and the bolt went in - torqued it up ... job done! :)

One down and two to go, unfortunately the other two are on the under side!

Helicoiled threads are normaly stronger than the threads that its replaced :)

I use them quit often at work and I've never seen one fail (as long as it has been done correctly) :D
