Do you have to remove te engine cover with either of the ITG or VF cai's? I will be buying one and fitting a cold air feed too a i've always noticed the difference on previous cars. But i'd like to keep the engine cover on to make it look a bit tidier. Or can you buy an engine cover that's been adapted to fit around them?

As far as I know you have to remove the engine cover for both, if not all cai's, as the cover is your intake. I know there is at least one aftermarket cover but not sure who it's made by, think some modify a standard to fit, most leave it naked!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I don't have an intake, yet!

Increased bhp after fitting ITG kit

Just to update on this post,

Just back from Monster Motorsport (thanks once again guys for excellent customer services, especially to Neil for the RR and Revo 'tweak'). If you in the Notts/Leics area defo recommending given these guys a try

You can view my build thread to see but basically after revo stage 1 on the dyno dynamics rollers my k1 pulled 272bhp* max afw

With ITG fitted (and a slight tweak to the map) made 300bhp afw.

Therefore from my own finding, if you currently running stage 1 and install the ITG induction kit I would expect you to see somewhere between 25-30bhp increase (not quite the 40bhp claimed on ITG website but nonetheless for induction kit alone thats pretty impressive in my opinion)

*Car was running a mix of normal unleaded and vpower at the time, now running just vpower so numbers may have been down a little

Nice good to see you have jumped up abit, im still waiting to get mine done so I can see the same as you stage 1 to stage 1 with ITG..

Keep getting setbacks flat tyre Monday (new tyre required) and my jacking point cover feel off this morning while on the motorway.. I know that’s not expensive but still a pain in the ass to sort out

But anyway nice to see there is a raise not sure how much mine will show, would be happy with 10BHP though..

Good increase and good figures there Invisable you must be well pleased, not quite the 40bhp but you dont have TBE, HPFP or uprated IC so youve not done bad.

Like said before if your car can make good figures on DD rollers then you know its strong :D.

If the map was changed, there is no way to tell how much it really gained.

I just fitted ITG intake after having carbon speed. And by logging 3rd gear acceleration with Racechrono sw and GPS before & after, the difference is very very small on the road. Maybe the car needs to adapt or something but so far Im a bit disappointed. And I dont care what it makes on a dyno, its how well it goes on the road that counts.. That was also the seat of the pants feel after fitting, just confirmed with timing.

I would be interested if anyone has made acceleration measurements with GPS for example from 100-160 or similar, before and after the fitting of ITG? Try for example the free S60 application http://www.racechrono.com/

bear in mind that 40Hp gain was had on a stage 2+ revo car, with before and after runs with a representative from REVOHq present to adjust the map to maximise potential with the software on both stock intake and itg.

it was done on the gti forum site administrators own ed30
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,9698.0.html

you could very well see those gains to once you are at stage 2+

I talked earlier in this thread about adding additional cold air to feed the system.

For those interested (and primarily K1 owners or those with the BTCC kit as where I have taken the feed from) see my 'build thread' link in siggy.

I have used 2 x 40mm ducting (40cm lengths) from the side vent.

Unfortunately since it would appear I over-tightened the connection of the cone to the pipework on original installation now I have refitted I don't think I have a fully sealed system as seem to be geting a little bit of 'flutter' on occasions rather than the usual smooth whoosh followed by the 'tsssh' on gear change so will need to order a new cone to check if this has any real benefits!!

The car needs 40-50 miles to adapt. I fitted Forge Twintercooler and ITG at the same time and noticed a small but definite difference on the road, the next day all of a sudden the chuffing and sucking noises changed radically and I guesstimate around 20-30 hp was suddenly released! It depends on the boost/timing levels you've got dialled in, I think mine were too high and the ecu was pulling boost and timing due to high intake temps, when the ecu realised the new, cold air was here to stay it said OK, now you can use the higher settings!

Thanks for the comments Cupraken. I actually installed the carbon speed back and it was quite clear that ITG is producing more power. Also with carbon speed it needed a few full power pulls in 3rd gear to get it adapted to full power. I went again back to ITG and I think it will remain there.

Many people have commented on the driveability issues and mileage issues with the ITG. I had these issues too, or mainly just the mileage which reduced about 40-50km per tank. Car was pushing a lot of black smoke during full power so its clearly on the rich side. And I think its because of the MAF overreading at the position it was in due to turbulence or something. With the ITG intake, the part of the MAF sensor thats taking in the air is not placed in dead center as with stock intake. I didnt have anything to center it, but I tested by angling the sensor into a different position. Earlier it was the same way as stock, but now it sits level to the ground (hard to explain this is english). Atleast for me this made a world of difference, my mileage has improved a lot. I think its now same as stock or even better.. Also no issues in driving. It picks up a lot urgently then carbon speed. I didnt have time to measure the results but my fine tuned butt dyno says yes :D

I do have some other issue with my engine that came up after the ITG install, there is some wierd "clunk" sound emerging from engine in low speed when pressing clutch or just by pressing the gas pedal shortly when its idling. After the revs drop to idle, the sound is coming up from somewhere. Anyone else spotted this? I heard this sound now also with stock intake but it seems to be muffled by it. I also have a rubbing issue with my diverter valve hose, the engine cover has almost created a hole in the hose.

havent had any issues wit the itg, besides the ridiculously awesome noise it makes, everyone i have in the car asks what it is and loves it when you give it stacks. mpg wise, i think mine has actually gone up, i have to say i mostly stay off boost and drive pretty gently, both for econemy and for the sake of the car, but my driving style wont have changed much before and after fitting, and i think the mpg is certainly a little better, even taking into account the improvement in mpg from the warmer weather. it definately did take a short while to adapt though, and yes the noise became more noticable after a while too, its probably my favvourite mod, because you can never fail to notice the noise, i barely notice the exhaust anymore

Has anyone noticed the itg filter affecting fuel consumption much?

I think I need one in my life.

Not hugely but better performance and air intake (including noise) encourages you to tweak the throttle more often.

If you clcik on my build thread, have a scan down a few install tips in there and a few youtube vids if you want an idea of what to expect

when i was stage 2 in my fr with a milltek tbe and an itg, i was averaging 29 mpg, much more than i was before putting on the mods. when i stripped them all off to trade in the car, standard it was back to 27 mpg.
i guess if you put on these mods and give it heaps everywhere then your going to use more petrol, but if you drive it like you did before then you should see a bit of an increase, the induction kit and exhaust make the engine more efficient so you dont need to give it as much throttle to go anywhere...im still getting used to my cupra on stage 2, so im still giving it somme when theres clearly no need to do so, just cause its fun while your getting used to it, so my mpgs around the high 26s at the minute, but itll definately go up when i calm down a bit, and i was only on low 28s at standard anyway

K03 or K04?

Hi there,

I am still driving a standard 08 plate K1 but feel its time to step up and start improving. I am going to wait a while before getting Revo'ed but am however looking to order an ITG induction kit today.

For an 08 K1 do i require the K03 or K04 kit? Non of the dealers seem to specify.

Does anyone know of online dealers with next day delivery?

Cheers, Ian

Hi Ian,

The Leon 2.0T Cupra runs the K04 turbo (the 240bhp from factory). Its the petrol 2.0T FR that runs the 200bhp smaller k03 turbo.

So you will need to order the additional component required for the ITG for K04.

As for suppliers with next day delivery for the ITG I think you will struggle. You may be lucky and find an online shop selling these from their stock but most orders are placed directly on ITG by the suppliers.

Most of the sponsored supplies on this forum suuply them, have a look at their links.

I purchased mine from Monster Motorsport through their online shop. - http://www.monstermotorsport.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_34_27&products_id=135

Awesome do one too - http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=14101&xSec=360

However you may have some suppliers nearer to you (SCN has a large number of Scottish modders!)
