Can anyone shed any light on whether a CAI such as ITG is available for the 2.0 tdi FR lump? To my knowledge its only replacement panel filters which have been available and i cant recall reading about any members having anything fitted other than the panel filters but i could be wrong...?

the itg looks a little rough in pictures, but imo it looks very well made in real life, and fitting it myself, the way it fits together is impressive too. it also sounds amazing. i have a milltek tbe too, and all i can hear these days is the itg, its not annoying by any means, but as soon as i press the accelerator, even gently to pull away slowly, you can hear it, its like a woosh noise coming from behind the glove box, then when you let off the accelerator, you get a 'tsss' sound. when you give it stacks it gets a bit loud, but then thats why i went for an open filter set up- that and hearing the clips from youtube that someone put on their thread (poverty maybe??). its pure darth vader

yeah i know what ya mean, for me it was either the itg or the bdm one, and more people had the itg. im all about tried and tested when it comes to spending that amount of cash on few bits of metal and foam

yeah true, i am going for the VF engineering one as it is the only one on the market that is tested with the new GIAC extreme map, cant wait to get it on and see what extra bhp there is above the hammer map. Good thing about the VF is that its cone aswell so should still give a similar noise to itg

Any links to one of these and prices?

ITG fitted now and like the sound. Possibly a bit of increase in the bhp but difficult to tell.

Maybe Revo is 'learning' if that is to be believed!

I did however notice that in the interest of keeping heat away the heat shield / foam enclusyre seems to inhibit the amount of air that gets to the cone filter. So some questions;

- The original intake point in the front grille is 'closed off' so no air supply getting to cone 'cause of heat shield
- The only place that there appears to be air coming into that enclosure is through the bumper vent low down

1. Does the cone filter need or will it benefit from 'forced' air being sent to it by say adding some ducting from the lower bumper grille or porting something undeneath the heatshield feeding from the original inatake point?
2. Has anyone done this and can give indication of improvements or how they have done it etc..

I have seen some directing pipes for about £20 from pipercross?

Cheers

mate, ITG are experts in the filter engineering field and their sole area of expertise is on the filters and intake systems on cars and motorsport vehicles. They know what they are doing, and the ITG has been proven to work without any issues, on the Cupra, S3, GTi and vRS without the extra cold air feeds, and has given consitently high gains.

Also take into consideration That andy@ITG used REVO's demo cupra as the guinea pig for this intake, with extensive dyno testing and never used any extra cold air feed. REVO now use this on their car over all the other potential intakes money could buy(and lets be fair money isnt an issue for them)and recommend it to other REVO users.

i think you are looking into this way to much, however another cold air feed will never be a problem. it can only do good, but is it required........ i think there is plenty of proof that it isnt.

The VF Engineering induction filter looks like it uses a different design of heat shield, and a forced air thingy in front of the cone which must blow cold air right over the cone.

It also looks a heck of a lot better than the ITG. I aint mocking the ITG design, as they muct know what their doing etc, but the heat sheild looks like a blue peter job!

Nice design on this one and interestingly they utilise the original feed by the looks of things to direct air straight at the cone

Totally agree they are the experts and ITG is tried and tested and highly recomended, was just trying to satisfy my logic and understand if extra air would increase performance or if it's really not necessary?

to be honest itg ig highly recommended by revo, just like VF with GIAC, you are not going to see a missive differance between any of them! good choice mate

Air does increase performance, the more air you get to the car, the more fuel you can mix which means you can advance timing to suit which in turn will give you higher performance..

So on that it would be beneficial to try and port a little extra air towards the cone filter?

I'll give it a go and see what I can 'fabricate'

you can run a peice of flexi-hose front beside the passengers fog light up to the underneath of the filter which will give you a fair bit extra air. i am going to do this when i get my car back

Ive just done it ;). When speaking to Andy@itg ages ago when he was fitting my filter he said the oem feed was crap and your much better off running a pipe from the fog light area as theirs a hell of alot more air volume down there.

Well I run my itg for 700 miles without an extra air feed and have now done approx 200 miles with a cold air feed on and I think it makes a difference even more responsive and the faster you go it seems to pull harder. Also if this makes sense it must be getting much more air in because my milltek non res exhaust seems to be louder so more air in and more coming out.
I think its def worth doing

I would agree although it might just be coinsidense, it was quite hot and had the windows open and it sounded loud as f**k :D.
