Re: My Mk2 Ibiza GTi 20VT Track Car Project *Update 18/4/10*

Today I picked up the Ibiza with the cage all welded in.

Stu has done an amazing job, a very neat install.

A few not so good pictures of the cage install (I've still got to paint it all):

I've decided that the trims are staying out, so I'm going to be painting the inside and ordering some carbon door cards soon. I now have the task of removing the remaining sound deadening from the floor and giving it all a good clean before painting. I've started tidying up some wiring this evening and removing all trim clips that are no longer required.

Thanks again Stu for sorting out the cage, and Ben for running me around all weekend.

with the sound deadining, your best to freeze spray it that tap it as it goes brittle and breaks off rather than warming and becoming a sticky mess

Wish I thought of that because I have a burn mark in the shape of the nozzle of the heat gun I used on my arm! lol

Had a good look over your car on saturday when I was helping Stu :D Although for half the day I was underneath stopping it catching fire. The underside is pretty cool as well lol

Very nice mate, looks like it should be great fun to drive. Given the size of your ARB's the cage should make it as rigid as possible.

Wicked mate, looks like Stu's done a top job. Lots of silver hammerite now :)

Looks like a really good job! Nice :D

Cheers guys. I'm happy.

I remember Ben setting alight to his, was quite amusing.

Cheers for helping him out, he did mention he had another cupra.net member under the car!

I haven't pushed it since the cage has been in, but with the ARB's and diff it handles alright.

You already know what i think about it mate :) next few weeks are going to be busy ones!!

looks good that nice job stu!
what yo got planed ben?

Cheers Rich. I think Ben has a lot planned for his, same with me really but it's finding the time to do it!

With some help from Ben, we got my tailgate fitted this evening. I've still got to sort the wiring and fit the reflectors back on, but it's looking much better already!

Much easier than i thought it was going to be. I think we were lucky the old wiring was still in it! Just need to get the screen sorted now!

Been sorting a few bits over the last few days.

I've now changed the steering wheel for a dished OMP one. It feels much better than the MOMO one.

I've started taking off all the remaining sound deadening. The boot is completely done and painted, and i've started on the footwells today.

I had the glass from the old tailgate transferred to the new one this morning, so the 16v spoiler is now on, along with the reflectors and it's all wired up.

The Compomotives are back on for the track sessions on Monday. They're stickered up and have center caps but i'm still not sure if i like them on the car :( I'll probably get them painted the same colour as the Super T's at some point.

Sorry Tris, only just seen your post. You've seen the wheel now  I will get some pictures soon though.

I've also decided that once i'm back from Canada in July the Recaro's will be up for sale and i'll be looking into some fixed back buckets, and a cheap daily driver.

The battery will be relocated into the spare wheel well, this time with better cable, and will be covered with a carbon boot floor i've just purchased from IbizaAlex. I've also purchased Alex's SeatSport baffled sump, so that will be fitted after i've sorted an oil cooler.

On May the 3rd I took the Ibiza to the BHP show at Lydden for some track action. Sadly, this will probably be the only time it sees the track this year, as i've got so many holidays booked I can't get the time off work.

I had started to paint the inside rear of the car, but ran out of time. Most of the sound deadening is now off, I just need to prep and paint the floors.

A few track pictures:

I've been looking around for a daily for a few weeks now, and after logging on here today I stumbled across this:

IMG_1811.jpg

A 2.0 8v Pre-Facelift, 109,000 miles on the clock, lots of history, Mk3 Cupra wheels, usual arch rot, but a good runner. 3 hours later after a few phone calls, it's on my drive. A steal at £100.

It does need some work, but i've got a few months before it will be on the road so it should all get done.

They are good pics, I think I might buy some of the ones from the photographer too.

Yeah it will be going in mate, you're welcome to the other one though as i think it's better than the Cordy one.
