I haven't had any problems in the wet and I have a lil one now so wouldn't risk running tyres that can't cope in the wet , IMO I think they are the best I have ever purchased

I've read hundreds of tyre reviews on all types - the Sessantas get really good reviews but DJHorace hates them on his car! Even the Goodyear Asmmetric has people that don't like them either.

It's very hard to choose a tyre.

Vreds excel in the wet rather than the dry I found - they are good in the dry, but not exceptional; in the wet however, they are godlike!

Just some comments about the Vredestein Sessantas:

"fantastic in the dry and especially in the wet, nice stiff sidewalls for good cornering and tread that wears well and the price of this tyre is so competitive puts so called premium brands to shame!"

"brilliant in dry and wet, ive done 6000 miles and they still look new and handle far better then any tyre ive used before of the same spec. Ive really thrown my car around on country roads pushing harder then is sensible to be honest and not once did it give the slightest indication it was struggling, even in the snow and slush ive gone exactly where ive wanted to be."

"These tyres are absolutely superb for my Mazda RX8. The standard Bridgestone RE040 are great in the dry but a death trap in the wet. The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta are fantastic in the dry AND wet (inc. snow). The difference is astonishing."

"I have to say they are fantastic performance tires. My e39 puts out about 410-415hp with the upgrades, so if I hammer her down it puts the tires to the test. I'm a pretty spirited driver and enjoy putting my stressing my tires to the limit...and that I have. Higher speed cornering on the on/off ramps are amazing."

"Done around 6 track days on them and in the wet were superb, leaving a lot of other cars scrabbling. Dry grip is also superb, but on a very hot Donnington session, started going off. would and am buying again, for road use you can`t go wrong."

"Just replaced my avon ZZ3`s with these....boy was I missing out...These are amazing in dry and blisteringly insane in the wet!! Defo buy again!"

"I replaced my old Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's with these and they are streets ahead in every way. Dry grip is outstanding - it's virtually impossible to unstick the car from the road unless you're really hammering it and driving in a bit of a crazed fashion lol."

"These are fitted to my S60 T5 running over 300 ft/lbs torque. Dry grip is fantastic, much less wheel spin and great feed back through the steering especially in the bends, improve brake feel due to the stiff sidewalls. Very good in the wet, I would say that they probably provide as much grip in the wet as my continental contact 3's did in the dry !"

And they go on and on ... ! For £87 a 225/40/18 tyre they sound pretty awesome.

didn't ZBOYD have these as well?

Think Allen's (DJHorace) main issue with them was he couldn't get it strapped down on a RR it just kept spinning up. Might be another consideration if you want to RR it again.

I'm not like you guys...
I work for a high performance tyre company, and we've had only one complaint about vred sessanta's....
"theyre a bit noisy" by only one customer and they were fitted to a BMW 7series.

We always recomend these to people and that's the only complaint we've had, I've got them on my car atm and can say that they are good. Biggest rival would be the Goodyear F1's also a very good allround tyre

Re: RobDon's Leon - stronger engine mounts needed!

After having a long think about it and watching many vids of Knockhill trackdays ... I don't think I'll be returning to trackdays. Having already done 100+ laps of KH in past years, I don't feel any compulsion to do any more, lapping the same track over and over just gets boring. Add in the expense, wear and tear, idiotic other drivers plus my Leon is my only car and I need it for transporting my kids around. Maybe I'm getting too old! I'd much rather go for a blast down a long, winding country road.

I'm going to remove the INA baffled sump soon and sell it, don't need it for road driving.

It is a shame to hear this Robdon, although your reasoning is understandable. I am potentially very interested in your baffled sump too! :)

Personally, I think you'd need to be a complete idiot to risk your pride and joy on a track. All that work, time and expense for the chance of some clown who has dropped a big engine into a rusty old "sleeper" to write your car off on the track? No thanks. A good decision in my book Rob.

Shame but fair.
I didn't realise the Leon was your every day car.
Time for a new project and a new chapter to Robdon's modding profile?
What's next?

Nothing, finished, the end!

I've done a Mk2 Escort before, long time ago, rebuilt the whole car including the engine.

I'm just going to drive the car as much as possible and enjoy it. If something breaks then I'll consider any upgrades at that time, but for now consider the car finished.

I need to find a new job and take my kids on holiday, so need money for that.

Based on the high number of good reviews they get and their price, I have gone for the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. Got them from Elite Direct for £86.95 each including free delivery - £347.80.

I'm sure they must be better than the Falken's, time will tell.
