twintake heat wrap

I've seen the gold heat wrap that some people use to wrap their intake pipework and was wondering if it insulates aswell as reflects radiative heat.

I'd have thought the majority of the heat comes from convective heat transfer from the hot air under the bonnet rather than radiative heat transfer. Therefore insulation is a better method of preventing the intake air from heating up.

Also, anyone know what kind of length of heat wrap/insulation would be required to cover all the pipework (length based on a width)?

It will have quite a high ambient temp under the bonnet but the problem is the Turbo is directly under the intake pipe work and that is the main thing that gets hot.

I think going to the trouble of insulating is abit overkill for little gain, i would just get a good air feed to the Filter and some gold wrap and have done.

What would be the point in gold heat wrap, as it only prevents radiative heat transfer. Does the exhaust manifold and turbo emit a high amount of infra red radiation heat? If that is a yes, then the gold heat wrap is worthwhile. My memory of heat transfer from University is that generally radiative heat transfer is negligible compared to convection and conduction.

That's a reasonable price. I also note that it says that it reflects heat away, and keeps heat in. If it insulates to keep heat in, then it will also insulate to keep heat out.

I might give that stuff a whirl.
