noticed something yesterday, im wondering if its the supercharger spooling up.
In some gear 2 or 3rd at about 3k revs , if you give the accel pedal a quick sharp gentle prod ( dont stamp on it) i can hear a chirp then it stops. is this the supercharger? it lasts no longer than a chip noisewise.
try it with the window open

A local guy to us used to have a Blitz supercharged Gen7 Celica - with an induction kit when he blipped the throttle you would get a "bark" is the only way I can describe it! It sounded awesome though!

The reasoning must be the same as stall on turbo compressor blades that you hear without a DV.

Will look out a video for you (when I get home though, can't get it at work)

on mine when ever i put my foot down i hear a loud chirp too. It does sound good but i didnt enquire at seat and they said it was the turbo spalling...i didnt have it in like the first few weeks...think it may have been something that has formed once the car has been run in..

Sounds good beecause its alomst a dumping noise then u hear the turbo

At what revs do you hear this ?

Mine whistles very loud under max acceleration from 5500 rpm

Ermmm not sure, must be higher revs, because it takes a few seconds to build up in the gear before it happens, ill take it out for a spin and let you know. Im guessing it will be around this rev range MacFever

I could be wrong but on the fifth gear video review Vicky B.H says that the supercharger starts low in the rev range and then the turbo takes over so if your hearing the noise at high rev's it'll prob be the turbo your hearing?

I'm sure techie will prob no any way

Yeah i no what you mean. I haven't got mine yet so i'm just going off what she said in that review. I'm using my mobile so can't post the link but it's on youtube or the fifth gear website, take a look.

Sounds like the supercharger coupling could be slipping. Mine did the same giving a chrip when accelerating from low revs, back off the throttle and reapply and it would do the same.

I think that if it appears at 5500 rpm it cant be the supercharger because it is cut off at 3500 rpm
It must be the turbo you hear
I have exactly the same thing but only when I floor it and from 5500 rpm

I was answering the o.p question which states nothing about higher rpm noises. Check the mk5 golf forums, been an issue on them for a while on the same engine. Mine hasn't done it since i repaired it. But having said that it would need to be diagnosed correctly at your local dealer.

No no at 1250rpm to 2,400rpm is the supercharger, supercharger + turbo from 2400rpm to 35000rpm and Then after only turbo is used..
