Hi there,

I have been searching in the net information regarding this engine that as far as I know is the one on the Cupra 241 hp (hope this is correct).

The information is very general but I would like to go deeper:

- Does this engine have 1 turbocharger or 2 like in the 1.4 TSI
- In that case is that a Borg K04, correct?
- Does this engine have balancing shafts?
- Engine chain driven correct?
- Variable intake / exhaust timing?
- Turbo cooling: how does after run pump work? This means I don't have to wait the turbo cool before stoping engine?

For the owners or people that has driven it: how is the feeling when driving this car ? Is a smooth response? Any Turbo lag ? Pushes against seat when accelerating? Does it feel like a quick car? (obviously it is a quick car)

Best regards and thanks.

It has 1 turbo and is a borg ko4 yes, carnt really help you on the other questions aprt from the last.

The car is a smooth as you like, power curve is perfect on mine. When stage 2+ your pushed into your seat till about 150mph and probably still after that but carnt comment. Yeah it feels like a quick car, although mine is stage 2+ as said, carnt remember what standard feels like anymore.

The engine has a timing belt not chain, and the car feels ok standard but you'll soon get used to the power and then you'll be wanting a remap!!

Your answers to the other questions:

The 1.4 TSI does not have two turbochargers. It has 1 supercharger and 1 turbocharger.

2.0tfsi has 2 balancing shafts that rotate at double the speed of the crankshaft to compensate engine's inertial forces and to achieve a high standard of acoustic comfort.

Variable Intake: YES

Variable Valve timing: YES

Turbo Cooling: I believe the after run pump is something to do with the coolant where if it is a certain temperature the fans will stay on in the car for a while to cool things down. So you will here them whirring away for a while after a hard drive.

No need for a turbo timer. If you are driving the car hard, allow the last mile to be at less aggressive pace. This is not necessary though it is advised.
The power delivery is smooth for a turbo engine, with the turbo not being very large lag is neither an issue. You will stay pinned in your seat as standard form, but the engine is very tuneable with just a remap and then you will definately be pinned in your seat.

Yes it does feel like a quick car.

I'm assuming you're looking at this engine for a transplant?

Thanks very much for the answers, it is good to met with helpfull people.

What surprised me most is that it is belt driven, more maintenance cost I suppose. I though engine basis was similar to the new GTI.

@ Knight rider

Last monday I ordered a Leon Cupra and during the very long waiting (about 6 weeks) I'm trying to learn more about it.

Can't wait:cry:

Is it a TSI or TFSI engine?

Catalog does say 2.0 TSI but I believe they just renamed engines.

By the way any real diferences between TSI and TFSI?

Thanks.

The engine is very similar to the MK5 GOLF GTI.

If you want to fine more or make comparissons between VAG engines then try: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_petrol_engines

The volkswagen engines are constantly winning awards so there is plent about on the net.

Well you'll love it. I'd drive it for a while as standard say 1,000miles then see what you think about the power. You may feel it's enough but I reckon you'll want more. If you do a simple remap it will pump up the power to 300.

Plenty of helpful people on the forum so any questions, there will be someone here with an answer.

Thanks, I plan to keep the car 100% stock but I recognize it is really templing.

First turbocharged engine for me but I was wondering that an almost 25% gain over stock value could affect reliability (in the long term) somehow.

Cant remember engine codes but the later engines that VW use and are branded as 2.0 TSi are now chain driven and are similar to the 1.8 TSi.

Also have blancer shafts and a seperate cooling system module that is belt driven off the end of the baancer shaft.

I believe the standard golf gti has the new engine, and Leon fr etc. They are chain driven. The k04 engine from cupra, edition 30 and35 and r golf, scirocco r, tts and s3 are an older engine but they are the strongest so they are still used in higher powered models.

Standard it picks up from around 2500rpm and pulls all the way through the revs. It is quick. You will want more power :p

Remapped it picks up at the same point but with WAY more power from 3000rpm onwards, I've been passenger in mine once and was pushed into the seat hard until my brother chickened out driving it. It is extremely quick.

My mate said it's fast but really smooth (he drives a 300bhp STI Impreza which is a very aggressive map)
