I'M going the HID route I reckon, have taken the MTECS out and put the stock bulbs in and they are 10 times better. The mtecs in the rain tonight were useless could hardly see the road!

MTEC SUPER WHITE XENON GAS CHARGED BULBS 12v 55w LOW DIPPED
Can anyone tell me what is the best set to buy for fogs and main beam? maybe even links. (preferably to HIDS- DIRECT, Im in work and shouldnt be doing this

^ Hi Rob, the 2 MTEC Bulb Sets that you state above are exactly the ones I purchased recently.
I found with mine fitted, they weren't "Super White", less bright White, more "blue Haze" - which doesn't meet the expectations of the marketing text, for these bulbs!
Anyhow, perhaps thats the look you are going for?
I understand your Main Beam on the Mk2 will be H1 fitment, foglights are H3 (?), so just locate matching MTEC's of this type, to build up a complete set?

Have you had a chance to drive with these on unlit roads yet?
I've had a look at the bulbs today in Halfords and not sure whether they will give any improvement over the bulbs I have fitted. There is certainly nothing on the packaging to indicate that they are high output bulbs

As I said earlier in this thread. Philips Blue vision are good in all conditions. They also come with matching side lights.

TubbyTwo, we are talking about Bosch Pure Lights mentioned in my earlier post, not the Mtec's, which I agree are poor at lighting the road, and is why I'm trying the Bosch bulbs rated best in the March Which? magazine.

Yet another set of super white Bulbs that looked very promising - but are actually no better than standard, and switching back to the Yellows!
Perhaps we should avoid this repetition, not let ourselves be wow'ed by reports of being " whiter than white", and just opt for a set of HID's.

TubbyTwo is on about the Mtec bulbs which we know don't give very good light output I was asking a question about the Bosch Pure Light bulbs which were rated the best by Which magazine.
Hopefully we will find out soon what they are like

I know I go on about it in almost every post I submit in this thread, but an observation, is that the majority of these aftermarket bulb sets, feature BLUE glass, or a blue band. Why do they presume we want this Blue tint to all our lights?
It generally results in garish Blue light emitted with less brightness. This becomes an obvious clue, when you see a car coming in the opposite direction with this characteristic... usually associated with cheap Halfords car modding!
Therefore, NO Blue band or tint please, pure white bulbs are the aim here.

Okay, for those of you waiting for an update of the performance of the Bosch Pure Light H7 bulbs on unlit roads, here it is.
Excellent illumination, with a bright, even spread of light across the road and the nearside kerb; to my eyes, they are significantly brighter than my old Osram Silverstar +50% bulbs.
I highly recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their dipped beams from standard.
For the benefit of those who haven't seen my post on the previous page, even though they are not marketed as an upgrade bulb, the Pure Light's have a higher light output than both Osram Night Breaker's and Philips X-Tremes - although, if you already have either of those, I would not suggest you rush to replace them with the Pure Light's as the improvement would be less noticeable.
I will add that the main beam Pure Light's are not quite as good, and in the test both Night Breaker's and X-Treme's rated a bit higher.

....I was thinking this morning, driving into work. We are driving around in 12 - 15K Leon's, and talking about best light illumination out of 10 - £15 bulbs.
Why dont we just do a group buy on a decent set of HID's, problem solved!

But wont a 5000K or equivalent emit a distinctive BLUE light ?
I thought the idea here was to achieve a bright / clear White light?
Would have stuck with the MTEC's , but they have this Blue tint ALSO - not the look Im personally after.
....However others here might like that Blue look?
