What is the MPG on a 1.8T Leon Cupra R?

I've just come to an LCR.

To work, which is literelly, 3 miles, I get 15mpg, but then it's all up and down hill and traffic lights and the engine never really gets to warm up.

Driving to Bradford-Blackpool-Bradford the other week on the motorway I got about 34mpg, speed limit all the way.

Round town when they engine does get to warm up is about 26mpg.

My old 150 diesel was about 33mpg to work, once got 66.7mpg on the motorway sticking to 60mph.

but a constant 70 on the motorway imho wouldnt make much difference to mpg than 60, if you didnt accelerate and decellerate all the time, if i keep to 70 on a run ill get 32mpg ish, constant revs

The difference between 60mph and 70mph can be much more than you think...

On my mapped LC if I keep to 70-75mph on motorway on a long run I see 31-32mpg... if I keep to 60-65mph which in all honesty is easy to do as heavy traffic from the driving I do means you dont get to go much above 70-80 anyway I can see 37-38mpg...

To put that into perspective ... thats an extra 60-70 miles per tank (two gallons) saving you £11-£12 per tank ;)

Doesnt sound alot but for me if I use the car daily (I dont anymore) that's a saving of nearly a grand a year :)

Saying that I dont have patience to sit at 60mph all day :p and the bike does a constant 52-54mpg no matter how I ride it :D

drag is proportional to speed squared so increasing from 60 to 70 is a 36% increase. plus engine is running more efficiently at slightly lower revs. All adds up. Id probably get 35-36mpg keeping at 70 so im getting a good 70 odd miles more to the tank.

fuel efficiency...... need to lie down and watch top gear.

I average about 23-26 mpg in my Cupra R, 6 round trip to work, all town driving. Light right foot Mon - Fri though, heavier on weekends ;)

My LCR 225 usually returns 31.5MPG for the tank - 6 miles of motorway speed, 4 miles at 30 odd/residential and 11 miles at 50MPH stuck dribbling along what used to be a 60 national limit A-road. With the odd overtake of course :) that's my commute anyway - for the performance I really find it hard to complain! Best I've ever seen for that on a single journey i 34MPG - the motorway stretch hurts the average I find.

Every other day I see a 55 plate black LCR with silver mirror covers on the A418 coming the other way... should put a shout out on the forum really :p

Hi Guys.

I am presently saving up for a black Seat Leon MK 1 Cupra R. I was originally going to get a Leon TDI FR with cupra bodykit but because I have stopped doing alot of motorway driving anymore I have changed my thoughts back to getting a Cupra R. Plus I would miss the nice sound of the petrol and I really like the Cupra R interior unlike the TDI FR.

Could you please tell me how come there are two makes of Cupra R's one with 210 BHP and one with 225BHP? :confused: Had one come out in 2003 and one in 2005?

Also could you tell me how much MPG you would get from a 1.8T Cupra R on urban and on Combined please, just so I get a rough idea on the fuel economy really.

Your help would be much appreciated. :D

Many thanks for your info it's much appreciated and interesting to hear about the differences in the 210 AND 225 BHP models.

Have you got a Cupra R? What model is it? Are you pleased with it? Now I have got a full-time job I can save up for my Cupra R. I was going to get a black Leon MK 1 TDI FR with the cupra bodykit but because I have stopped doing loads of motorway driving I thought I would look into the Cupra R's. I am 20 and do motor racing for my hobbie so not the cheapest of sports but i'm dedicated to reaching BTCC. Because of my age and hobbie I have currently got a 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa C SXI so I can't wait to have my cupra and more power despite the higher bump in insurance. lol :cry:

My LCR used to average 34-36mpg on the motorway at 85-90mph, then it suddenly dropped to 29mpg, which is where it's remained since. No idea why - still trying to find a fix.

Even more curious, back in the summer I drove across a 'country in mainland Europe' & cruised at 120mph for approx 2 hours on an empty (2am) motorway. What was the MPG - 27.5? WTF? :confused:

(And before anyone queries/asks - yes, my LCR's trip computer's av mpg is 100% accurate.)

I can't remember the exact speed, but I think it's at 70mph 50% of engiine energy is fighting wind resistance.

Just thought I'd write a quick comment and thank u ALL for ur comments and reviews on each of your Leons MPG performance. I'm just hoping when I get my MK 1 Cupra R it averages mid 30's at least. Then i shall be happy. :D

lmao - something is wrong there mate !!

Around town gets me mid 40's, having fun on A roads gets low 40's, motorway mixed driving around 50mpg, motorway 70mph around 55-58mpg & the best I have had out of her is 65mpg (sticking to every speed limit for 25 miles - I had no diesel in the tank & the petrol station by work was being refurbished lol).

Must be the way I drive, LOL. The car is running sweet, just been serviced.

Reducing speed from 70mph to 60mph makes a huge difference on my car. Granted I don't have a Leon yet. Although I am in the market for a Cupra TDI 150.

I get around 48mpg at 70+, and about 53mpg at 60 in my car (Stilo JTD 115). Highest ive seen was 4 hour motorway journey and car returned 67mpg and touched 70mpg once. Shame the car's electrics are driving me mad, ah well Leon Cupra TDI owner soon.

Less than 20 mpg in my LCR but most of my driving is short distances too and from work. When I get a decent run out the mpg goes upto over 30

I average 27mpg with mixed A roads and town driving. That's light footed in the week and a bit heavier on weekends! On long motorway runs I can get 32-33mpg.

Well gents I bought my cupra last weekend after reading all your post hopin to hit at least 30 mpg, but have failed misserably. I only do 9 miles to work, same back an have averaged 25.5mpg for the week. But it has been a very enjoyable week!!

On a 9 mile trip though, the engine will only just have got up to temperature I'd expect! MPG takes a much harder hit if you have to drive at motorway speeds within 10 minutes of setting off, from what I've seen (aka my commute which I described earlier in the thread - I get better MPG on the return trip with motorway at the end, compared to on the way in to work with motorway at the beginning).

25MPG is still good for 200 horsepower ;)

You would need to work out the drag coefficient, which is to boring to discuss :banned:
