Well the thing is, if I was looking to spend £25k on a hot hatch, I would be more interested in something with an LSD and 300bhp as standard with possible warranty approved tuning options than something sub 300bhp and no LSD. Lets face it, a Focus RS would destroy a Leon Cupra R.

Agreed there, perhaps not in a straight line, but as a overall car its gotta be the RS for me. And after the RS id be looking at a rocco R.

Straight line twisties or whatever, a standard RS should mince a standard Leon Cupra R.

Im not sure mate, twisties and anything with bends or involves trying to get the power down the RS will bve quicker.

Straight line I think my money would go on the cupra r, the mazda mps seems to be quicker than the RS.

But who cares its not all about straightline speed, its all about driver enjoyment!

Leon Cupra R = Waste of money

Leon Cupra R = Leon Cupra recycled and we have to pay for the privalage.

Other manufactures have caught up and raised the bar , if it was me i would buy a new Cupra and go stage 2+ or as said buy a Focus and put the new 370 BHP package on:whistle:

or maybe even buy an R32 and put a 400 bhp turbo package on , a lot of money but what a car.

If I was to buy a new hatch tomorrow in view of tuning it and ragging it to death it would be Focus RS, megane sport or scooby STI for me.

Even the cupra, is it still the same performance bargain as it was one or two years ago? Some might argue the competition has caught up.

The cupra only really makes sense to me in stage 2 plus form, but we have yet to see how the new megane will respond to tuning, it could possibly take the cupras crown if it can hit 350hp on the std turbo.

It is the price that has been mooted but still feel 24K and leather as an option would be better. But looking at the cost of other hot hatches is reasonable for performance/power and the Cupra is now 21K following VAT and slight price increase. For 25K would of expected Xenons as standard as well though. A decent discount if available later on would see it at £22500 if you take the usual 10% discount that some dealers offer.

I paid £18,226 for a new Cupra 08 when it came out. It came with Xenons, convenience pack and bluetooth.
Despite owning it for 2 years, I still look forward to driving it everyday (except when it's raining and the window 'seals' rear their heads).
But I wouldn't pay over £20k for it. With even less chance of me paying for a Cupra R.

For that price you could get a very good BWM 335i or 335d which is as fast as the Cupra and does 46mpg!

So a new Cupra R with Metalic, Nav, bluetooth, sunroof and Xenons (which should clearly be standard) = £28,000+ Errrrr... No thanks!

If that happens mate i'll eat my Milltek..

it seems that the seat have taken the leon from being great bang for buck compared with the golf and s3 to being just as overpriced as them. they think that because they are part of the VAG group that they can overprice like other members of the VAG group

i'd rather buy the cupra n go stage 2, i reckon thats what i'll be doing once i get my finances back on the straight n narrow n decide to sell my current cupra r

as much as i hate fords i would rather spend my 25k+ on a focus rs  than the new cupra r

cant see that happening , tuning companies only do a very mild map for meganes , nothing that goes stage 2 + power , so will doubt we will ever see that , but i would love one they are gorgeous and have rave reviews , only thing is depreciation so i would not buy a new one.

Don't think the turbo's on the Renaults are up to big tuning (if what I've been told is correct).

I think the Cupra R is a veritable bargain, I'll take 2 please; loaded :cartman:

Once I saw the LCR price point I went out and spent some money upgrading the S3 as it seemed the better long term option. Bugger the age and mileage, it has been treated well.

thats good idea really... if i had 25k to spend on a car i would either go for a second hand S3 and remap it or focus rs... i really cant see any reason to buy it over a standard cupra... big fail on seats part really.

For 25K I could get a 6 month old 135i M Sport Coupe manual with full Leather and Xenons and a simple ditching of the runcraps for normal tires and you have an excellent car. Test drove one and both handling and brakes were fantastic very tempting........

Does the new Cupra R have a bigger turbo than the Cupra ? If not, I really don't think it's worth the extra cash, as you could get a fully spec'd Cupra and Stage 1 Revo for about the same cash? (know which car I'd rather have!)

hmmm interesting will let my neighbour know who has one im sure he will be interested to know as he drives his quite erm sprightly!

I hope your neighbour doesn't look like the RS driver in that article ?

That's really bad price for Cupra R for you U.K. customers... That's when I compare the price differences here in Finland:

48k€ for Focus Rs basic spec
36,5k€ for Cupra R with basic spec

...the difference is 11,5k€ ~ £10 000 !!! :-o

So the Cupra R has to be the winner for us :D
