GOOD Headlight bulbs

Well, I jumped on the MTEC (4750k) bandwagon as one of my dipped beams had blown, and they do look good, very white just like HID's - but, I have to say, I could see the road better with my old Osram +50% than with these, despite the claim to be equivalent to 100w.
The problem is that our eyes don't see light in the blue spectrum very well, so unless they are very much brighter like HID's, then these 4500k + bulbs are never going to appear to light up the road as well as standard warmer colour Xenons like Nightbreaker's and Xtreme's - although I'm sure many of you will disagree?

I'm currently running my CR FR with the Philips Extreme +100%, although they're pretty yellow in comparrision to my LED side lights, they do light up the road well. Would you recommend switching to the MTECs or stick as i am? I must say, the MTECs do look impressive!
After reading numerous posts on here about the light issue i have decided to order the full mtec setup: h1,h7, and sidelights, cant wait for them to turn up and all for under £30 bargain!!

I'm running a HID kit, with MTEC fogs and sidelights and Halfrauds Super Brilliance Blue bulbs for the full beam. The Halfrauds bulbs are yellow compared to the MTec bulbs but a bit brighter. With HIDs the fogs are more for show now, but the MTEC bulbs get as close to a HID look as any bulbs will go. I've been running this set-up for the good part of about 2 years now. I've already been through a set of sidelights, one blew after just over a year. Maybe just a little unlucky. However, they are very cheap and well worth it just for the better looks.
Plus, with the chrome coating on the bulb, it's less likely to be noticed my an MOT examiner.

Fitted my Mtec bulbs yesterday and they do look very good and give that nice HID look
However I'm not that impressed with the light output and as I do a lot of night driving I think I might be moving back to my my Ring Xenon Max +100% bulbs very soon.
The Mtec bulbs are a very good styling upgrade though

Definatly agree with you Ian, although a mint styling upgrade, i too do alot of miles on unlit A-roads at night, and there pretty pants at lighting the road, ive had to use them with fogs, which almost defeats the point! Awesome styling for the price though!

I've been following this Thread with interest. Sounds like the MTEC bulbs look good, but sacrifice on actual light output. But how would the MTEC dipped beam compare with standard Leon dipped beam?
Also, there's been 2 K ratings discussed, 6000 and 4750.
So the 6000 are quite Blue, but how about the 4750? I want a White light, with NO Blue tint at all !
Interested in trying out the dipped beam first. If I like them, perhaps going on to the sidelights after.
Also, what wattage rating are we supposed to use? 55 or 100W?
Sorry about all these N00b questions - please just answer, and I wont bother you again!!! LOL

Before getting the Cupra with the xenons, I've used Philips blue vision in the 3 cars before that. They give a nice white light, good range and are also good in rainy conditions. They even used to come with matching side lights in the pack.
Just put some in the GF's car last night, so we'll see if they're better than the OEM bulbs as her lights were sh!t.

My opinion is that the Mtec's illumination of the road is not as good as the standard bulbs.
If you are after a pure white light then 4750k is what you want, the Mtec 4750 Cosmos Blue bulbs have a kind of mirrored coating rather than the normal blue tint on most HID lookalike bulbs.
As far as I am aware 100W are not road legal and can potentially cause wiring problems and or possibly damage the headlight shell/lens because of increased heat/UV
You have to decide what is most important to you, illumination or looks, because for me you don't get both with the 55W Mtecs!

Thanks guys. It would perhaps be very useful to look at the Pics that people have posted, for comparison. At work at the moment, so Images on forums are blocked unfortunately!
I want a nice pure (effective) White light, with no yellow or blue tint.
As you mention above Paul, the Mtec 4750 Cosmos Blue bulbs might be good for this - although while they emit a nice white light, they dont light up the road that well?
With these Bulb sets being quite reasonably priced, as some have done, might buy each set, and put one of each on the car, to compare. To see what I prefer best.

After requested by pm to see how the mtecs compare to the nightbreakers for actual road visibilty I have to say that the nightbreakers are quite a bit better tbh, but oh well its still mtec for me as they look the biz

If the MTECs are good enough for your 360bhp Cupra K1 , then they are certainly good enough for my FR !!

Hmm..I was borderline going for the MTECs for sides and dipped but the priority for me is how well I can see with them and not how they look to other drivers.
There's no denying they look smart from a styling point of view though...

Phil, agree that the "upgrade" is only really worthwhile if the lights perform better than standard.
However from feedback in this Thread, it appears the MTEC's while providing a more piercing white light (which looks great), however dont light up the road as well!
Part of my drive to / from work does include country lane driving, at night, which will be a perfect test for these new lights. Will get back to you once I receive them and have them fitted, with a verdict.
If it turns out that there is not enough light emitted to drive safely and actually see whats coming up around the next corner, I will be going back to OEM straight away! Safety comes before asthetics !
