Caught The Mod Bug Again!

Mate, I'm 31 and am only just about getting to the stage where I can enjoy spending a bit on mods. All of the things I have done have been fairly cheap and spread over the last two years! One day you will be in the same position... I'm going to be a daddy for the first time in April and most of my spending will stop. Might be able to sneak some past the wife.... ;)

God I'm about 10 years younger. As much as I love uni, I can't wait to get out there and actually earning some proper money (in a few years I bet I'll regret saying that!). When I was at 6th Form I seemed to have so much spare cash and did so much to my little mk3 Ibiza, but since starting uni I've not once been out of my overdraft and into the positive in 3 years!!! And that's even with working all summer too!
It's a tough life being a poor student when I'm so passionate about my car and just want to do so much to do it *sigh* ah well, that's what dreaming's for I suppose

Cupra calipers SOLD

That's right folks, I have sold the Cupra calipers!

A very quick turn-around I know, but made the decision to sell them and they were snapped up today (loads of interest too!)

So.... What shall I do next?

Some of the options I was thinking are: TT 312mm brakes, wind deflectors, Scanguage 2, black vinyl roof. Or shall I just save my pennies for a few months for a FMIC set-up?

i wouldnt bother with the wind deflectors unless your a smoker,i think you should get the brakes and vinyl as that will look great then get the fmic.
not sure how your get the fmic behind that bumper though if you go for the seat sport cooler.

Don't smoke mate, but the drips annoy me when they blow in (from windscreen washers or drizzle).

Good ideas though.... looking at brakes on ebay and Edition38 forum right now actually....

i'd go for the wind deflectors, iv got some on my cupra which you commented on the other day. i don't smoke but they stop the anoying sound that the wind makes when it comes in the car and like you said, they stop water dripping in the car.

what brake discs are you looking at mike? im after getting some for the front and maybe the back

Not just discs, calipers, carriers, disc and pads. Ferodo DS2500 pads are supposed to be the nuts... Any disc really. Drilled can crack if you use them aggressively I've heard. Grooved can wear pads quicker but aid cooling.

Thats a difficult choice lol. If I was in your position I wouldn't know what to go for as they're all good mods!

If I had to choose, it'd probably be...

1. Brakes - Important for slowing down a modified car
2. FMIC - Lowers intake temps so a few more bhp. Brakes first for this reason ;)
3. Scangauge - Good to know whats going on with your car.
4. Wind deflectors - 4th as they're not as necessary as the above
5. Vinyl Roof - Performance mods first please :D

Easy. As said above this is the order with 1 or 2 adjustments. ;)

1. Brakes
2. FMIC (Hence 1)
3. Hooooooge Turbo (Hence 1 & 2)
4. Scanguage (nice to make sure 2 & 3 are working)
5. Wind deflectors (as you will need them with all the extra power you have from 2 & 3)
6. Vinyl Roof

Just a thought.

 Good ideas chaps! Brakes are being investigated right now actually...

No need for huge turbo right now... may future-proof my car though in case my turbo goes one day! ;)

My 2 penneth:

1. Brakes - will look cool but are you having problems with fading? tt setup is cheap and easy. Comes on 4 motion golf, doozel golf, etc etc. if you are fading then you'll need a more serious setup anyway, 312mm won't save you!

2. FMIC - have a go at logging VAGCOM. I think you're gonna have to run it over 4000rpm for quite some time imo to get into horsepower sapping conditions (over 60 deg C at the throttle plate i think?) but it'll look the nuts!

3. Scanguage - does it do anything a registered VAGCOM doesn't? look into an incar pooter permanently plugged into your EOBD port and then you get gauges and logs and stuff - just an idea....

4. Wind deflectors - do the drips bother you? you big girl.... plus your car will look french :p

6. Vinyl Roof - now that's my kind of thing, it gets slaaaggged big time on ukmkiv as a concept. you will HAVE to do some trackdays if you do it. i'll race you in the polo! :cartman:

god i'm an opinionated tart!

i went to this AMAZING garage today, gonna hang out there more, they race a cupra in a seat cup series and it is awesome! big garrett on a BAM engine balanced nicely jabba manifold and a big ol downpipe. there was a 'stang, pug on tb's, binlines, beemers aplenty, i'm so excited!

biggest post ever.. sorry about that!

I'm a big girl? :gay:

Bigger brakes for the looks and a bit more stopping power. Would be good with serious discs and pads!

I do like the idea of a FMIC but... I might investigate getting more air to the SMIC first! Removing fogs, adding ducting etc.

Vinyl roof will look cool. Know of any places nearby that could do it Pete?

the swanky discs and pads will make a massive improvement, and th price difference between tt size and your size is negligable, calipers should be £50 a set no worries (and you are the bargain king!) and will give you a chance to paint em too so all good there!

don't know what your arch liners look like, but letting the air flow through like the TT does seems to make it better, i'll lend you me heat gun if you fancy having a go!

I thought you'd do the roof yourself? i'll ask around if anyone knows anyone if you catch my drift....

 On the look out for TT calipers and carriers this week....

The vinyl would look rubbish if done badly so looks like a job for the professionals, not me in my garage!

The drivers side arch liner has slots in it to let air out, its just getting the air to the SMIC that might be restrictive.
