Mike, the power levels will be clutch power not wheel power.

Circa £400 a pair from Sere Motors IIRC..

ok, sorry to bang on about it but just to confirm the 150bhp that VW quote for their engines is at the fly and NOT the wheels.

VW Vortex confuses me as they talk a lot about whp and this forum and ukmkiv's talks about bhp figs which i assume are at the fly which makes it difficult to compare...

no remap for the golf unless it's worth it, so with that in mind when are we going for a jaunt? tis my birfday wednesday want to go out then then?

brakes are aweeeeeeeeeeeesooooooooooommmmmmmmmmeeeeeee! you rock!

oh, and lastly on this mahusive post; i just fitted a set of fancy Tarox discs and ds2500's to a subaru and it nearly wrenched my eyes out of their sockets. they make a hell of a difference! (last pads i bought =£21, ds2500=£75 i think!?! get what you pay for i guess)

Yes Pete, us in the UK and all manufacturers quote clutch power, not wheel power.

Most of the yanks quote WHP though

Wednesday beer sounds good mate!

Brakes may not fit behind my wheels though... we shall see. If they do not, then either small spacers or swap for a set of 312mm TT calipers (that will defo fit!) They were cheap , so I thought I would give them a bash. ;)

Apparently people have some issues with swapping pads etc. with these AP racing calipers. Few issues with bits and bobs seizing up. Again, we shall see!

Good knowledge again Damo!
Had a look at the gap between my current calipers and inside edge of the wheel spokes... looks to be about 15mm of room. The SEAT Sport calipers look HUUUGE so it could be tight! Are spacers on the front an absolute no-no then?

I personaly wouldn't got for spacers on the front (maybe 2-3mm at most).

I've been running DS2500's for nearly a year, combined with the AP 4 pots and drilled and grooved 312mm discs the stopping power is truely awsome :D

DS2500 pads are expencive for the AP's though :(

i run 3mm spacers at the front, only cos i have to to clear the calipers with these wheels. Would try and avoid it otherwise. If you need to, get the ones that fit nicely on the hub rather than the horrible universal ones.

Won't go any biggeer than that I reckon... any more space needed behind my wheels and the calipers will be sold on. At least the TT 312mm calipers fit!

Calipers are here...

Well the Ibiza Cupra calipers I have recently purchased arrived today. They are MASSIVE. :wtf: I knew they were big beasties but its the thickness of the f0ckers that gets me.
So I popped out to the car and did some quick measurements: old calipers and wheels vs new callipers and wheels. Will they fit behind the starfish alloys? In a word: NO... not without spacers or buying some Ibiza Cupra wheels (and before you say it, I know there are some for sale at the moment!) I guess I had underestimated the dish of the standard Cupra wheels in order to fit these behind them.

 Decisions, decisions...

They are very deep yes!

If you actually following an Ibiza Cupra on the road, you can see the middle of the wheels actually sort of dish out. In a convex way from the tyres (eat that teacher ;)) So actually bend the spokes out and away from the calipers! How big are the spacers you'll need do you think?

I had my front wheels off for a spot of cleaning at the weekend. When standing at the bottom of my drive looking at the car head on, the calipers stick out from the edge of the bumper even! :wtf:

At a rough guess I would say 10mm. I guess I wion't know unless I get them on the car... and I'm a bit reluctant to do that now. I might have to get under the car (as it is) and measure from where the calipers bolt on to the suspension and then to the inside edge of the wheel (for a bit more accuracy.)

They are wide and bl00dy heavy too!

Might be better off with the TT 312mm set-up! Less hassle and easier calipers to service and maintain (apparently, reading stuff on this forum!)

And there's not much difference between the 312mm and Cupra setup from what I've heard. Because the pot is SO big on the 312's - it's practically just as good as the 4 small pots on the Cupra. Just the Cupra brakes look nicer...

The TT 312mm calipers don't have a "pot" on the outside of the caliper do they? The width of the Cupra caliper is to fit in two "pots" on the wheel side!
I thought the TT 312mm set-up would fit behind most 16" and 17" alloys on the Ibiza. No spacers required then!

But if the AP's have one sticky piston, there's three others... If the TT's have one sticky piston...? :p

There will be more even pressure across the whole of each pad using the AP's compared to the TT's. Each pad is squeezed agains the disc with AP's, rather than 1 pad against disc, then disc against pad with the TT's. Personally, I can't see how the TT's can be as good

Maybe they are under everyday driving conditions, but out on a track with consistent abuse, the TT brakes will fade waaaay before the AP's.

I reckon you should try and get 2 Cupra owners to sell you a spare each and fit the brakes anyway :D

Would it be that noticeable with a decent disc and pad set-up though?

The AP calipers do look sweet, its just they are too wide for my wheels unless I get spacers.... and folks on here have said that's a no-no!
