Thought i should throw a few pics up of my Leon after a spruce up over the weekend.

Had the car for a week now and loving every moment i get in it... it reminds me so much of the Octy vRS i had a few years ago, i loved that car but i think the Leon has impressed me even more. Its got the same performance, maybe even slightly more since the torque of the tdi is greater than the 190lb ft the vRS had, plus, i'm currently getting an average of around 40mpg (combined) and expect that to increase as the car gets a few more miles on it.

So, enough waffle... these are the cleaned but not waxed pics. This was done on Saturday afternoon in sub zero temps and as you might notice, there was ice forming on the car in some of the pics.

Saturday:
Wheels cleaned with Megs WB and various brushes / Megs MF mitt
Process was snow foam and Maxi Suds II via supers sprayer - left to dwell for 5 minutes
Wash TBM with BTBM and sheepskin mitts
Dried with SN towel
Tyres trimmed with CG's new look trim gel via tyre applicator.

Sunday:
Rinsed and dried
Wiped over with Megs LT
Waxed with RB's JE (as mentioned).
Interior wiped down with Megs APC (10:1)
Hoovered
Carpets, rear bench and front seat backs coated in 303 fabric guard.
Windows cleaned with screen wipes (finding these really useful at the moment).
Wax buffed off with DoDo Fantastic Fur MF's.

Then i spent a few hours yesterday applying a coat of wax (Rubbish Boys Juice Edition) and cleaned the interior including a spray of teflon sealant over the carpets, rear seats and front seat backs (i'll do the front seats when i have time to let the product dry before having to use the car again).

I didnt manage to get an overall finished shot of the exterior cause it started snowing 2 minutes after i buffed the wax off ! To be honest, it looked exactly like the above pics with a bit more gloss to the finish  oh and the pics are off my phone and in dusk light ;)

Once the weather picks up i'm going to get the car clayed and polished with DoDo LP then a couple of layers of SN. For now though i'm just happy to have it clean and a layer of protection on it.

Thanks for looking, Nige

Cheers pal... i must admit that when the rinse water started freezing on the car faster than i could dry it off i started to doubt my enthusiasm !

Still, its got a basic layer of protection on now so that should see it ok for a few months until the weather warms up and i can spend more time (without worrying about snow!) on it.

It does look nice in that colour, done a good job of making it gleam :D

I have a similar cleaning regime planned when we get ours in March. Although before I wax I will surface prep and apply Supagard and then a nice coat of wax to bring the shine out and further protect the supagard.

I also intend to clearcoat the callipers and Supagard the wheels as well as scotchgard for the interior. A regime I have done on the last two cars and when I sadly sold the 118d last June the people buying it thought it looked like it had never been used. A compliment indeed.

Both very clean looking cars!!

Sounds what i'm looking to do but what would you use on the calipers to clearcoat them?

and is any scotchguard ok for the interior?

also the is the supaguard the black tubes with the red lid as i have been given or is there something else to apply first

sorry both - i want to get this car right from the start! :)

any tips are greatly appreciated as the cleaning products at the top are in a different language for me!

thanks

The callipers need to be new and clean to clearcoat them. I use Halfords Clar Laquare and a pply two or 3 coats. I have tried PlastiKote from Wilkinsons and that was not as durable as the Halford stuff. If the callipers are older and dirty/rusty then Hammerite is the only option.

Scotchgard is fine for the interior, you can buy the Supagard interior protector for about £3off of ebay.

The Supagard yellow liquid in the black and red tube is a wax protector for the sealant also helping bring out the shine. The selant again cost about £2 off of Ebay and comes as a sponge. You simply moisten the sponge pierce the liquid filled bag in the centre an apply to clean and well prepared bodywork. Wait 15mins and buff off.

Meguires do a really good range www.meguiars.co.uk and also available through Halfords. A really good wax is one of my best recomendations. It can also be used on painted and laquared alloy wheels to bring out the lustre in them. I spent £35 on a NW wax from Zymol sounds expensive but lasted 4 years!! Now using Autoglym high definition wax again costs around £35-£40. Although I got mine free with a What Car subscription ihn October.

Apologise for the abbreviations used in my write up... i also posted this on DetailingWorld and you get used to people knowing what your talking about to be honest.

I tend to steer clear of the Supaguard and Autobright et al products these days as unless you buy them off eBay they cost a fortune and offer no more durability or protection than the brands you can buy in Halfords for a lot less.

The best advice i can give someone who is looking to clean / detail / protect and maintain a car is to spend some time looking on the detailing forums on the net and reading reviews and reports on what people have used and the results that have got. Then decide on the products you want to use based on your budget and what you want to achieve and go for it. Spending some time reading guides on those forums is also invaluable imo... i dont profess to be an expert in detailing a car but i do think that i have a reasonable knowledge to be able to produce a good finish that stands out from the crowd on the car park at work !

Looks great Nige. Did you inspect paintwork with any lights or did you tell them not to clean the car when you got it?

Cheers matey

It was a pretty bright dry day when the car got delivered so i had a very slow, close look round it and decided that it was ok.

I did think about asking them to not clean it but the lease company wouldnt deliver the car until it had been prepped at the dealers.

When i cleaned and wax it over the weekend i spent another decent amount of time checking the panels under an LED torch and its pretty good. No swirls, no RIDS etc.

Its going to get a proper machine polish, sealant and couple of layers of DoDo SN once the weather pics up as well so for now i'm very pleased.

Very cool, will look at the writeup on DW ;)

Just ordered a new Ibiza for the Mrs and I advised that the car isn't cleaned by them. Mrs got upset as the first site of her new car it will be dirty lol.

Walsall, just noticed your location, I was there for the past two days working on an IT project.

Agree £250 for Supagard, Lifeshine, Silvershield and Diamond Bright is just a silly price the dealers charge, I just buy off of Ebay for £2. I have to admit to being sceptial about Supagard intially but once applied it really does help look after the paintwork and prevent minor scratches as well as sealing in a nice lustre.

With a regular wax to deepen the lusture and add shine 2 years on the dirt still just drops off and car looks as good as new and just requires a simple wash and monthly wax to bring a showroom finish. One to avoid is Diamond Bright it requires far too much maintinance unlike the rest which just need a good wax to reduce wear of the selant.

Thanks for the Help Both;

Though i will have to give you both the blame when i explain to my other half why i just spent £120 on scotchgard, supagard, wax, detailing spray, wash, polishing cloths, drying cloths, sponges, buffing cloths and applicator sponges (Meguiars & Dodo Juice)

eBay is just too easy to buy from!

Have i missed anything that i need (besides some good elbow grease)?

:p Jus tell her the car will be worth a £120 more when you sell it!!

Don't forget two buckets one to rinse the sponge or washmit out and one for the shampoo, stops grit damaging your precious paintwork by rinsing the sponge/washmit after each application of shampoo.

What you have should last quite a long time and give you a showroom finish happy detailing!!! :D

I did forget two buckets - thanks again!!

But yet more help needed

Went and got them this morning to give it a wash ready to wax etc tomorrow - and i have now found a stone chip (black plastic showing) in the bumper just under the headlight!! [:@] :censored:

Is it thin paint or the lack of wax as i have only done 350 miles, very gently too (for me!)

its about 5mm round

~ ive cleaned the dirt off it and cut the scuff mark off with tar/wax remover any ideas next?

thanks

Cheers dude... yes, the vRS made a lasting impression, it has to be one of the most underated cars on UK roads !

So far the Seat is doing a very good job of living up to the mantle though
