Ibiza Cupra tdi noise comparison???

I would like to know from those who have first hand expesience.
What's the noise level in the cabin of the ibiza cupra tdi compared to a Golf iv 90hp tdi?
I own the second one and considering the cupra for sometime now but haven't made the jump yet.
Lot's of fuss around cabin noise, wind noise, road-tire noise...

There is a fair amount of road noise from the tyres (Toyos t1r's) but the engine is quiet at speeds and the wind noise isnt too much. I find long trips in it no problem. As smaller hot hatches go, its one of the more quiet ones. Its no rolls royce though :lol:

i have a cupra tdi and a must say it is really quite when driving, its just sounds like a petrol. when im slowing down from 20- the tyre noise to quite bad but nothing major and the only time time the car sounds like a diesel is when its stood idle. when i was choosing between the petrol and the diesel the only thing that worried me about the diesel was the sound but it doesn't even bother me

i have to disagree i think its one of the worst.

engine noise at idle sounds like your golf with the window down. you don't really hear the engine when moving at low speeds.

tyre/road noise can be quite bad below 30 but then the wind noise covers it at motorway speeds, but by that time you're tuned into your music.

In my experience (almost two years of cupra tdi) it is a bit noisy in the cabin at speed due to wind noise which depending on my mood can be hardly noticable to a bit annoying at worst.

Its the tyre noise that got me initially when I first got it and was learning to live with it, it is fairly noisy at 20-30ish but is better at speed although still more noticable than your average car. I have found in my experience that yokohamma parada spec 2's help this a fair bit but for me the trade off came in wet weather as I found them a bit slippy but amazing in the dry+they look good as well. I'm now back on uniroyal rainsport 2's which are noticebly more noisy at spead and at 20-30ish but they are alot better in wet and about the same in the dry.

Having said all this it depends on where you live as I drive on crappy roads where the surface is shagged and makes the cupra very noisy-theres a section of the A64 near me and it's awful!! When I drive on motorways and say city centres it's not so bad but alot of the roads round where I live can be rough and noisy and the cupra amplifies this compared to an avarage car that has bigger profile tyres+softer suspension.

Engine noise isnt too bad when cold and improves alot when warm and really isnt noticable as a diesel at 50+ and in my opinion actually sounds nice when you boot it-I never thought a diesel ever could!

Another point would be that you gotta take the rough with the smooth-no pun intended! No matter what sporty car you get it will be noisy compared to a normal car it's the trade off for getting a better handling car.

Personnally I do get tired of my car when I'm knackered and just feel like floating home in a big fat A8 or something but I never get that sick of it that it makes me want rid because it has planty of boot, handles well, looks good, can easily get 50+mpg on longer runs or motorway driving and is cheap to tax considering the performance.

So it's worth asking yourself more than once what your really want and what type of driving do you really do most of the time.

So from what i understand it's all in the tyres.
Anyone tried out the Michelin Pilot SX on it.
Seem to be a favorite choice here for low profile tires.

I'm now back on uniroyal rainsport 2's which are noticebly more noisy at spead and at 20-30ish but they are alot better in wet and about the same in the dry.

I have to agree that the rainsports are a noisy tyre but the performance benefits out weigh the noise issue for me.

The cupra tdi is a bit rough when cold and at low revs but once you are above 30 it's fine on a smooth road. I've been told it has a nice exhaust note for a diesel when booting it but it's not loud

With the road conditions at the moment I have to drive like a formula 1 driver on a warm up lap to avoid all the pot holes!

its noisey, but you do become used to it. But the cost of running and owning more than makes up fo that diesel noise, once warm its a lot quieter, some of the minus celsius days we have had have made it sound awful.

Could that be the Malton bypass?

My FR TDI is deafening along there!

But a bit better with new Pirelli P7000 on the front, but the original P Zero Nero's on the back are very vocal
