Loving my new FR

Bright and early on Friday (22nd) morning the driver from Listers called to say he was on route to my office and would be waiting for me when i got there.

So, 09:00 and there it is, my brand spanking new Nayara Blue FR tdi.

I must admit that i've only ever seen the FR in this colour in a show room and i really do like the colour but in natural day light its much much better

I'll get some pics up later this week when the weather pics up a bit but for now the colour is the same as the virtual pic in my avatar.

Anyway, did a few miles in it over the weekend with the family on board and we're all loving it. My eldest daughter (4yrs) giggles her head off when i put my foot down a bit (still within legal speeds i might add) and my youngest daughter (2yrs) finds sleeping in the back very easy

I havent had chance to give it some beans yet or push the handling but to be totally honest, i havent felt the need to yet. Its just nice knowing that if i need to, i have the ability to press on with ease !

I'm very impressed with the build quality and fit n finish of every aspect of the car and am loving the Seat Media and Convience pack options i went for.

The ride on the standard 17's is fine, stiffer than the Mondeo i moved from but not too hard, more a nice reassuring stance and composure at any of the speeds i have travelled at. There is a bit more road noise than i had in the Ford but nothing that distracts from the pleasure of driving the car. Not sure what others are fitted with but mine has the Bridgestone Potenza RExxxx (forgot the numbers).

The only thing that has caught me out so far is the driving lamps which come on when you are moving the car at low speeds, its a very clever feature as it illuminates the area directly infront of the car when your trying to park but i've noticed they also come on when driving in first gear at low speeds and turning the wheel... not a bad thing but it must look odd to other road users !

Only question i have is around driving styles and speeds that should be considered when running the car in. Is there a preferred number of miles that should be covered before the car is really given a good blast or should i just drive it normally ?

Other than the colour we have exactly the same spec on order it should be REO50 tyres I had the RFT version on my 118d and were very good both for grip and wear as RFT's are notorious for rapid tyre wear.

As for running in it is best to take it steady for the firts couple of hundred miles to let the brakes and tyres bed in. After that its divided opinion a nice keep it low revs helps the engine run in gentally and makes it more reliable 40,000 plus miles apprantly. The other train of thought is to give it some beans and the engine does loosen up quicker but can get more oil thirsty past 40,000 miles.

I have run in cars in both manners and found just to drive it normally once past a few hundred miles is fine not thrash it, but use the power if needed and just drive smoothly But certainly always makes sure the engine is warm before making use of the available power in a more spirited manner in the first couple of thousand miles.

Hello Mate

nice to hear your enjoying your new motor.... I recieved mine on the 19th Dec the new FL Cupra as in pics <------------. The driving lamps i to at the start thought this very odd and again went though the same process as you of noticing when they come on....

Driving on to the drive with more than a quarter left or right.

When ever you put your indicator on the driving light below lights..

It is quite funny at cross roads as you can make the car WINK....at the car oppisite just with a quarter turn left then right then back to the center with out any indicators on..

I have now just hit 3200 mile in a little over a month... Needless to say i'm loving the FL Cupra.

Loving it mate... got a 16gb SD card for all the MP3's i could find and copied the map software from the nav disk onto it this morning. Chap at work has got me a camera file for the software as well so going to try and copy that over and see how it goes.

I wasnt sure the sound was going to be as good as the Mondeo which had a high level Sony system in it but to be honest i cant fault the sound the media system gives out. For a factory fit system its pretty impressive !

Need to go back to the drawing board i think... the site my chap at work uses for the files reckons the map software is the iGo 8 system but the instructions and file dont match to the layout of the files on the SD card.

Anyone got any idea what software the RNS310 uses for the navigation ? I cant find anything on it from Blaupunkt or a google !

@ Doll... cheers mate

Glad you are liking the car.
Millsman is right, the Media system uses Tele Atlas maps, (Didnt you have the diisk with the car ?).
With regards to running in there are differant opinions. For the first 1000 miles or so try to keep the engine free reving (dont let it labour) and try not to red line it has well. Page 182 of the manual gives some tips.

Got the disk with the car (well the day after through the post cause it wasnt there when they delivered the car)... It does say telemaps on the cover but according to the website we looked at the RNS310 used something else. I'll have another look into it and let you all know.

Should have thought about looking at the manual but you know what we're like... dont usually look at manuals until something goes wrong :D

Glad to see your enjoying the car mate! You'll be clocking up the miles in no time!

Let us know how you get on with the cameras on the nav as i would like to find out how i can do this myself ;)

As far as running it in, i played it safe for the first 500 miles but had a nugget in a Fiesta ST up my arse all the way home from work the other day, so had to give him the slip and some black smoke [B)]
