Looking for a bit of advice, I wanted to upgrade my turbo

thought about buying a second hand pd150 turbo and sending it off to one of the turbo companys but then also been thinking about buying one of the turbos fresh off the shelf

this is for my seat leon 110 tdi

my aim is for about 200-230 bhp

any advice and rough prices would be good aswell

cheers guys

i know brad1 managed 190bhp with a pd 130 turbo on his 110 but there are loads of options - turbo solutions will modify a standard turbo for £160+ vat with a 3 day turn around but you have to send it to them.

You could speak to rs tuning in leeds or turbo dynamics or even risk using allards (but it might be the turn off the next century befor you reciev your parts)

With Garett 1749VA or VB (130 and 150 hp engines) turbos you will not reach 200hp on that engine. Maximum would be ~190 with stronger one. If you want 200+ than I suggest GT2256. But I hope you know that turbo is not the only thing you need to change in 110 engine...

Very true.

For 200hp you will have to change nozzles, pump head, intercooler, exhaust...........

And if you want to bring it down to street, you need uprated clutch, swap DMF to SMF if you want torque over 300Nm...

Im well aware of what needs uprated, I already have a uprated clutch and SMF, I have a fmic from the pd150 coming and in the process of making solid pipe work for it

im also aware that I need uprated injectors and fuel pump

my brother has a 230bhp fabia VRS so I know what needs to happen to achieve what I want im just not sure on choice of turbo he runs a Allard VT5 turbo

Well, Fabia VRS has ASZ engine. PD is much easier to upgrade than VP44. In principle you need only big turbo and FMIC to get 230hp on ASZ.
Anyway, I would advice GT22 - it is well known modification and easy to buy on aftermarket (for example Mercedes 2,7CDI engine uses GT2256). I have myself GT2256 in Altea FR TDI (170 --> 230) and I am very satisfied (except that altea is heavy cow and even 230hp does not make it quick).

That is very interesting, what was involved in fitting the Mercedes 2,7CDI turbo to the Altea FR ?

What was involved? A welder ;-) But let's not mess in this thread. Here is the link to dyno drawing: seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=226652&highlight=altea+dpf

On my 110 tdi i had :-

PD130 Garrett turbo
Uprated injectors
Straight through exhaust
Modded airbox with 4" cold air feed
Custom FMIC with custom intercooler pipes
PD 150 EGR intake manifold and EGR delete
SMF with sachs uprated organic clutch (rated over 400ftlb)

I had it rollered just before xmas and it ran 190.7bhp and 303.5ftlb, not bad for a non pd with 124,000 miles on it ;)

Thats a GREAT result brad1 well done ! Whats the power delivery like on it on that stage of tune and do you have much smoke?

Thanks mate, the power delivery was good and the fmic helped reduce smoke alot, hardly anything tbh. Also that result was with a map running 19psi, not even the max they can take ;) Car is sadly gone now tho and replaced with a LCR 225 :D

the early ibiza fr and fabia vrs both shared the same 130bhp 1.9tdi asv engine so in theory yes you should get the same results but you'd need:

hybrid turbo
fmic
re-map to suit
definatley a stronger clutch

Well, horse powers don't kill the clutch. The torque does. I think that strandard clutch from 130tdi can handle 400Nm and this is just what you need to get 230hp at 4000rpm. But of course stronger clutch will allow for much more power in low and mid revolutions.

do you know what 400nm is in foot pounds? would you just need a map to limit the tourques then? i got 295 lbs of tourque now and i feel that is enough as anymore will just cause rediculous wheel spin lol

1lbs = 1,3558Nm

400Nm = 295lbs

Seems you have exactly 400Nm :) But with small turbine you have it probably at ~2500 revolutions looking as a narrow peak. Than the torque falls slowly down and at 4000 revolutions is in case of strong software 350Nm (that gives about 195hp). If you have large turbine, you may have that 400Nm still at 4000 revs and that is ~228hp.

in theory but whats the point, I have 380lbft and have just eaten through my sach organic clutch so i've gone for the Sach sintered plate which is rated to 480lbft.
you dont have to go for a SMF as mines being replaced with another DMF as its a daily and i dont want the chatter of a single mass.

on the 130pd just a remap takes it into clutch eating territory so it really is a must
