ive had this for a little while now and its cost me a fortune in fuel...

When i 1st go out to the car in the morning is starts fine but sometimes is in limp mode but i have no lights or codes via vag-com...

But says once it slightly warm is struggles to start and when it does it really hesitant but fine once u get it rolling then when u come to stop at the lights its perfectly fine...

but looking at my MPG meter i reading 11mpg the other day and now stays at 20mpg and thats without even giving it beans...Ive just got 267 miles to a full complete tank of fuel...

Also even after 30mins off driving the temp gauge sits at 60degrees untill i come to stop for a little while then it will then go and sit a 90degrees but soon as i start driving again saying to go on the motorway it will go back down and stay at 60degrees....

Ive spoke to John about it and he seems to think its the cts....But before i buy one could it be that?

Is it the black sensor? I dont think the weather is helping with inferrior sensors that vw churned out lol. If its black then thats your problem, when mine was at fault i had a missfire, over fueling (badly), popping through the intake. Your symptom is more than likely the overfueling as the ecu thinks the engine in cold, so instead of running rich for arround 30 seconds its running rich constantly. Another thing is the plugs will be black, so will need cleaning up.

those symptoms sound like a stuck thermostat. loads of people have had this problem recently, me included. My mpg was way down until i got it sorted.

Thermostat gets my vote.
Mine broke and was like this all replaced and sits at 90 as it should.
If you have vag com you can log the temperature on that.

I would say same as Shaun thats its a faulty Coolant temp sensor the way the car is being with poor MPG and hard to start that it is over fuelling all the time due to the ECU thinking its running cold so adds more fuel to speed up the warm up time but cause it thinks its cold all the time is making the car drink fuel.

It would hurt to change the stat aint so hard just a pain to get too.

Righto..

After changing the knock sensor it has been perfect..But saying that i don't drive it much during the week...

But tonight it was in limp mode and when i turned it off after a 10minute drive it was struggling to start But the temp needle hadnt even moved...

then with anothe 10minute drive home it was slowly coming to 60degree surely it doesnt take this long to start up?
I had done a scan a few days ago and the Map cooling sensor error had came back up...Hence there being a new CTS fitted and its a few weeks old ive got a New thermastate of my old Engine in the shed..was New when it was in the ibiza..

Am i correct in thinking as the temp gauge is a 0degree on the dash it things its actaully still cold so pumps extra fuel in to make it warm up quicker ''Yet its already warm engine wise''?

what you need to do is check it with you climate control unit. if the CTS reads 90 and you needle is still playing up its your thermostat. If the CTS sender does not reach 90 after say 5mins after the needle then its prob your temp sender! could be both.

Read this thread it should help you
http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=251809&page=3

My needle takes just 4-5 mins to get to 90. the CTS sender its self reading it through the climate control unit is normally around 60 when the needle has just hit 90 and soon catches it up.

Check that thread out should help you determine if its the CTS or Thermostat

I Desided to go to Audi for the t'stat as it was closer and i wanted a dealer part not a cheap ECP one So anyway £22 later i finally got one..

Ive fitted a few stats before as i knew they were fiddly todo well so i thought but with the lcr theres alot more room alot more than the ibiza bay ...

Anyway 20mins later i was done i started it up and checked for leaks and everything is fine after 10mins of idleing it was at 90c Seems to be spot on so far...

The old stat i took out was well fooked...it was full open all the time ...

Il report back and see how it is./
