Thanks for the advice everyone, am currently compiling a little list and have ordered a couple of things.

I took my insurance out with Direct Line and just found out they won't insure anyone under 25 for a modded car.... NUTS! Am in the cooling off period so I can still cancel it and get a refund so I've requested a quote from this "Greenlight" company that I've seen mentioned although I have a feeling the premium will be gargantuan... We shall see. Might have to scrap my plans!

If you're going for a Forge 007p order one with a yellow spring and don't fit it until you have your remap. These come with a green spring as standard and are the correct rating for standard cars ie 5-15psi but the yellow ones are rated 15-23psi.[/URL]

I just had my car remapped by forge and a 007p fitted to go with it last month... I was asking about the springs and which one would be best, and the bloke who did it said that a standard green one is fine for a stage 1... i dunno about you but I'd rather have as low spring as possible without it leaking boost, as it is more protective of the turbo is it not?

I havent had any problems with mine leaking boost as far as Im aware!

Defected!
I have a Custom-Code stage 1 map and boost can spike as high as 22-23psi in this cold weather which was making my 007p 'flutter' even with a yellow spring so Forge sent me a few shims from the tuning kit. With my D/V serviced and with yellow spring + 1 shim it's perfect. The D/V's primary function is'nt to protect your turbo it's to stop it from stalling when the throttle body closes when you change gear and help reduce lag. You are right in saying you want as low a spring pressure as possible without it leaking but according to this link I would'nt have though the green spring was up to the Job but that depends on what boost pressure you're set at, it might not be quite as high with a Forge map.

Cheers, I've sent them a message so hopefully can get a quote today. It looks good that they don't charge the admin fee when you make mid-term modifications but that may just be the cosmetic ones. I like the idea of insuring to a max bhp and then you can just mod up to that, just hope the premium isn't too large!

Greenlight's winning at the moment, the quote was cheaper than directline but I need to find out what it will go up to after remap so waiting to hear back from them.

If you're wanting a cheap an effective mod go for some HIDs

Santa delivered some for me this Christmas and I can't believe the difference vs. the price.

As to whether you should inform your insurance company about this... Many peoples opinions will differ ;)

I phoned Brent Acre and they said they'd ring me back in half hour but this was over an hour ago. Messaged them earlier as well and got no reply so they're obviously not too fussed! Will wait until I finish work today and if I haven't heard anything then sod 'em.

Greenlight got back to me and said if I got a remap to take bhp up to 215 (just an estimate, it's currently 180) then it'll be an extra £98 but still works out slightly cheaper than my current Direct Line policy so I think I'm going to change over to Greenlight tomorrow morning as things stand.

With regards to the HIDs, they're definitely on my list of things to get. Which ones did you get, Squintstream?

That ebay link doesn't work for me? Sounds good though, please fix it :D

I decided to give Brent Acre the benefit of the doubt as I may have given them a wrong number by accident or something so rang them back and just got a really good quote so I'm glad I did and thanks to those who recommended them. I'm allowed to mod my car up to 230bhp (currently 180 so probably won't get anywhere near that) and I can make any mods I want, I just need to phone them so they can update the file. There's no admin charge or anything, it's brilliant. Will be cancelling my direct line cover tonight and moving to them in the morning!
