I left the car with him for a couple of days. I suppose you could send the callipers, but he couldn't ensure that everything was working as it should if you do, could he?

Best bet is to ask him

Anyone can pm me if they want info on a thorough strip down of the calipers... i'll make my own thread on the subject when iv'e reached my 15 posts..lol

Aside from the cosmetic enhancement, the castings really do benefit from being properly stripped down and treated...the coating behind the pad support rails can wear away over time, and the aluminium start to rot... the surface area of the aluminium that the rails sit on is really quite small and if this is left to rot, the calipers will have to go in the bin!... i know this has happned to a fair few RS Focus owners already, which is a shame as it only needs an inspection every 18-24 months roughly speaking...

as far as the coating goes, i don't recommend using spray cans from halfords....and especially not whilst the calipers are still on the car, it just won't be a proper job, and won't stand up to the weathering on the road.... my personal preference is a single coating (built up in 3 layers)...without laquer, as the laquer is always going to seperate from the paint on a caliper...

Interesting, I suppose you have to take all the brakes off and send to him presumably? or just leave with him a week or so?

if you dropped off or posted the calipers, this would certainly speed things up my end.. :)

but don't mind either way... if your leaving the car with me i'd need it for 2-3 days depending on condition and how easy the parts are to remove.... sometimes the bridge pipe threads just round off when trying to undo them, due to them being left for so long..

The stripdown service fee is £70...painting is an extra £40...

which i'm sure is pretty backwards as the paintstripping and bead blasting takes HOURS....:cry: but thats what iv'e charged so far....

i can only do it in my spare time, so a little patience is needed in finding a date sometimes... quite often when i do Alcons on FRP's they are spare set or the car is a weekend toy so sometimes time isn't a big issue, but i guess most of you guys use the car as your main run around....either way, a pm will discuss these issues....

Please note: certain parts may replacing during the rebuild which will clearly be at extra cost... iv'e got some good contacts for bits and bobs but they are of course not for free.... bridge pipes are a real bugger for not wanting to be removed without threading..

Didn't we get three different pipes for £25 or something like that? Bloody bargain IMHO

Some handy refurb info taken from another thread. Thanks to AlexGSi2000

-----------------------------------------------

Brembo brakes are a pig when it comes to refurbes / parts.

It sounds like one of the inner fluid seals has given way, causing fluid to leak past the piston and the outer dust seal.

If your fairly mechanically minded, you will be able to sort this yourself by removing the calliper, getting replacment seals and fitting them.

The only place iv found which will sell individial Brembo seals is Competition Braking in Yorkshire, I spoke to Paul Wilkinson when I had to order seals: [email protected]

The piston sizes in the Leon & Ibiza Brembos are 2x 36mm and 2x 40mm per calliper.
Each piston has an inner fluid seal and outer dust seal.

Now onto refurbs, if you want it done professionally, again, youve got more chance of finding rocking horse poo than finding someone to do it.
I searched for days, the only place I could find that would overhaul Brembo Callipers is Mode Performance: www.modeperformance.co.uk

Before you do all that, double check the bleed nipple is tight.

i finally done mine today .........it looks better than before but not as good as new.

I peeled back any loose laquer the best i could, although some wouldnt budge, and it was the stubborn bubbles that now can be seen after i had finished

may just get them painted red now
