Hey!

I’m after some advice before my friend arrives tomorrow.

I tried to start my car an hour ago and noticed the key fob wasn’t unlocking the doors (the light wasn’t flashing on the fob). When unlocking the car with the key I noticed I couldn’t stop the lock light on the drivers door card from flashing (causing the proximity sensor to set off the alarm). When I tried to start the car I was able to turn on the ignition but it wouldn’t fire (same with both the primary and spare key). It was suspiciously like the immobiliser wasn’t deactivating.

I hoped that replacing the key battery would sort the problem but to my surprise when I took the battery out of the fob and refitted it it started working but unfortunately the car still wouldn’t start...

The car was last driven yesterday for 15 miles without any problem. I can only think the battery may be dead? Oddly enough the engine oil light flashed and beeped last time I tried starting it…

The car was serviced 4 months ago so I’m hoping its nothing major

Any ideas...

i wondered this!! i thought im not going to take the risk i will just bite the bullet and get a new battery only just bought the car 2 weeks previous, it had been raining and was very frozen so might have been a dodgey connection

i got a new battery and service done the next day now all seems fine,

i did noticed my lights were very dim the weeks leading up to my non start and a lack of enthusiasm when trying to start, it was on my 'to do list' but not quite as soon as i had liked just before xmas! like i say no problems since

***UPDATE***

looks like the problem might be a little more serious than I first thought!

Unfortunatey the car still wouldnt fire after a jump start. We tried to hook up vagcom but my friends laptop is telling me it cant talk to the port. All the fuses look ok and we disconnected the battery and reconnected it...

Any ideas...

I'm stumped!

My friend has gone home to try vag com on another car (to ensure its not the laptop which is at fault). we have used the software before without an issue...

Anyone able to offer some advice :(

Just tried to start it again and the battery is definitely dying a death. How many times can you attempt to start a car before the battery loses all its power?

is the remote still not working?

are we sure its not an immobilisor issue>?

Hi mate!

The remote is now working after I took the fob apart and refitted the battery (oddly enough).

I was thinking it could be an immobilisor issue but unsure what to do to find out for sure?

***Update!***

Car is alive :D!

The fault was traced to water in the ECU/Fuel Pump/Injector System RELAY! Looks like I've got a leak down the side of my driver’s side wing or bulk head (definitely not the door as its too far up)!

When I opened the RELAY up it was badly corroded! We all know Leon's are prone to leaks but I'm wondering whether the excess water has come from a leaky windscreen (replaced 3 months ago).

During the winter months for the past three years I've noticed a reoccurring bit of a damp carpet by the accelerator pedal. I'm wondering whether this is a common place for a leak or whether the front windscreen replacement might be the problem...any thoughts?

Once I bridged the relay ports the car ran sweet as a nut (albeit with part of the lower dash missing and the engine management light on).
