The "crap" vtec commet always make me laugh. It is a fantastic piece of engineering, in terms of squiezing that amount of power from a NA engine and maintaining factory reliability....but if you still think that's crap, coming from a petrol head, I find that an odd comment

I have driven the civic type R and yes I find the vtec noise intoxicating! Especially in long tunnel runs :D

however if I wanted the combination of speed, handling and noise then it would be the new M3

Wasnt talking about the engine and engineering been crap merely the horrific screeming sound they make hence the reason i asked if you liked the noise , still a step down though imo.

mine will be getting the WALKit next year and that will be it (ive said that a fair few times though).

No garage??? Your insurance will love that.

And here's todays £5000 installment of my annual £1.8m premium... :-o

If you want something that ticks all those boxes you're after a RWD/4WD super saloon / coupe of the BMW M series or Audi RS series, although a Ralliart Mitsubishi Galant VR4 or Lancer FQ450 would do the job. Plenty of scope with water injection and nitrous too. Depends how much cash you have to kiss goodbye to.

Why not get an Edition 30/Pirelli Edition DSG Golf? They are faster due to ability to change gear more quickly.

RS and M are too heavy. Will eat through tires and brakes too quickly with my driving, and the tires/brakes on the Ms and RS's arent cheap.

Golfs too boring looking, too common. Id rather BT the k1 or do haldex conversion.

I have been thinking about this thread all day.

Another option could be to pay off the cupra early, BT it and do haldex conversion instead of buying a TT-RS etc.

Buy an S3 then and save pissing about with any silly conversions that will cost more than the value it will give, and with the net result of you being stuck with a car that will probably be trouble ridden, hard to insure and more than likely impossible to sell on.

You might even get Halfrauds to sell you some nasty Aero style bumpers for it :cartman:

Is JonnyC's S3 not for sale somewhere?

Haha, would have thought a haldex conversion would be pretty reliable as it should theoretically all be straight swaps.

Another option would be to pay off the cupra, leave it stage 2 plus k04, and get a BT VX220 Turbo or a 2nd hand BT evo which I could strip out

How would you create the necessary space to route and fix the required parts and gubbings on the Cupra? What would you do with the exhaust routing etc? Do you have someone who is able to alter floor pans and perhaps be able to alter the chassis for this type of work?

The parts may well be a straight swap, but bolting them on to the car in a way they will work is a whole different story.

Ive seen a project of a GTI with haldex conversion in canada. Boot pan needs cutting, exhaust would need to be done custom. chassis wouldnt need much altering, just driveshaft etc would need to be right length.

And now im thinking it would just be easier to get the TT-RS.

Oh well I cant do anything till march anyway, will probably change car by mid summer if I am indeed changing.

Great engine, amazing looks, very rare and far better build quality.:funk:

Can pick up a 6month old one with very high spec for £19,000 :D

I'm getting confused here. You say you want fast but keep talking about a modded VW group car. Since the VW 4 pot is relatively weak compared to the competition this is pointless. Buy an FQ450 and it will be quicker out of the box than anything you do to your Leon / Glof / Sickrocco.

The TTRS is the best option short of an RS4, and since there are probably only 1 or 2 people who frequent this site skilled enough to exploit the handling of and M3, you're best off erring towards forgiving and stable.
The S3 is slower and more expensive than the RA cars, so why bother? Same for an R32. You could turbo / supercharge the v6, but given the development cost to do a proper job, again, why bother?

As for a VX220 turbo - why not Ginetta G50R then? Sexier than a threesome with Jesica Alba and Megan Fox. Maybe...

Thinking about it, some research may be in order on that one

the tt-rs would be a much better option than an rs4 especially when tuned also alot lighter but tbh i dont think he knows what he wants, same with me i keep changing my mind on what to do next which is why i think he asked the question and still hasnt come to a conclusion.

I dont think hes the only one with the same problem though .

I meant of the VW group cars. A RA FQ450 would destroy a TTRS. Skyline R34 too.

It would make more sense to start with a budget, list the uses and requirements of the car (will it only be used for competition? Will it be used on the road infrequently, frequently? etc..) then shortlist a few cars that fit the bill. After that, look at feasability of mods and setup.

Where are you seeing this Evo 450? The only one I can see on Mitsubishis web site is the FQ400.

Ginetta g50r? Need to google that. TT-RS with milly is 435hp, 460hp, 500hp and 500+hp packages still in development.

Quite a few of us have this problem as you have said. Alot of us dont know what we want or for better words be a viable and worthwhile upgrade to the stage 2 plus beast called the cupra.

Tell me more about this RA FQ450. Never heard of it?

The FQ450 was the highest tune version of the Evo 9. Water injetion was a pain and frequent servicing meant it wasn't suitable for normal road use.

The fast cars aren't actually sold by Mitsubishi, they are imported direct by their approved performace arm, Ralliart. You can spec your car direct with them to whatever your preference may be, right up to 600 / 650bhp depending on the particular block. Get it delivered to your local dealer and you're off!

The twin turbo 2.7 V6 VR4s were very rapid and extremely tuneable too. Most of the same kit as the Lancer - same 4WD system and AYC but with factory semi-auto box. Good for M5 stomping.

Thats a new one on me. I have a mate who is well up to speed with Evos and has owned every variant over the years and is currently working on a 10 right now. Not heard him mention this.

Again, not a 'dealler' Mitsubishi, but a works development of the FQ360 (i think it was - going off memory here!) with some clever trickery in the turbo - can't remember what - may have been twin staged to avoid the horrible lag like on the FQ400. Might even have been a variable vane ceramic jobbie - wish i'd been paying more attention!
