How much does a Brake Light switch cost?

Heya Guys,

A lil help please

After just spending money on water pump, belt pullies etc,

My mrs was driving the LCR and i was following in my saxo,

After driving for about 10 min i thought dam she ant broke once yet..

When we arrived to our destination i realised the break lights arnt working.

I have done a search which tells how to change the break light switch, but just wondering does anyone know how much these cost and is there anything else it could be.

They are only about £10 or less from a dealers. It would be worth replacing it with a newer type anyway. Use the guide and let us know how you get on :)

Mine was only working once the pedal was depressed by at lest a third.

I fitted a new style switch but didn't resolve it so took a wrench too it and bent the bracket out.

(Tip when fitting new switch it has a built in on/off that doesn't get enabled until you lock it into place in the bracket so don't be worried if the brake lights don't work when testing the new switch in your hand)

Has anyone got any tips on changing the break light switch as I need a new one I think I have checked fuse and bulbs and all look ok please help

if it's 2 pin and part number 191 945 515 B retails abour £13+vat

gimme a shout if it as i have a box of 10 new ones here

you can one for naff all if it helps

Have fun, its straightforward but if you have big hands you will have stratches all over your hands :D

Also, when mine went it threw up a fault code which had to be cleared before the new one would let the brake lights work.

Thanks all I will see that part number it is all I know its a 2003 03 plate 1.8 20v t cupra leon once I don't that job I have to fix electric window as its stopped working sound is coming from motor then resealing all the door seals to much water in side car lol

I think it was only 7 quid from the skoda main dealer and 18 from my nearest seat one. They are a lot more helpful than the seat dealer as well

Thanks all could I get the break switch then from vw dealer then if I can get one from skoda as I am closer to a vw dealer than a seat one and is it a main dealer part only I take it plus does anyone know the best way in getting metal panel off the door need to fix electric window and anything I need to watch out for

I thought I had some kind of major fault yesterday as I was driving up to Stamford. The glow plug warning light was flashing once a second continuously. Hand book says it's a diesel system fault, but the car was pulling like a train right up to 4K so that wasn't right.

Sure enough, looked on the forum this morning and the suggestion is to check brake lights. They weren't working at all. I then needed to get to work so I cycled there!

Anyway, got a brake light switch from GSF in Peterborough. The plunger's completely different (it has a flat round head instead of just a pin) and the barrel's rectangular instead of cylindrical. But it does click into place. Shame the pedal doesn't disengage the switch though! So needed to come up with a mod: a really small shirt button! Super-glued on, fitted, magic!

Once its locked in position you depress the brake pedal with your hand and pull the plunger of the switch down to meet the pedal.When you release the brake pedal the pedal returns to its normal resting place and automatically shortens the plunger on the switch to the correct length that operates the brake lights with very slight pressure on the pedal.
None of the switches are the correct length out of the box and won't work until you pull the pin down ( mines a LCR by the way).;)

Ah, didn't know that. To be fair I just took it for granted that there was no adjustment on the unit at all. It was nothing like the original unit that came out (where the pin twists on a thread to set the correct length). The new one will not rotate as the plastic plunger is guided into the switch barrel. Ah well, know for next time.
