KO4 Vs Big Turbo

Have a bonus on the way in January and so far only have 2 upper engine mounts and Diff planned.

With my ever present lust for more power Big turbo keeps calling!

I currently have KO4, Dbilas Inlet, Apr large intercooler, Apr HPFP, Apr stage2+ Map, Miltek 3" DP, Sport cat and 2.75"system, Forge DV

Love the power being available at 3 / 3.5k revs.

  • Would the effect of big turbo have a massive effect on that? I read the GT3071r been externally gated 'spins up quicker'?

Also

  • Is it possible to initially build and run a (reliable?) big turbo TFSI for the remaining £3.5 - 4k of my bonus?

Thanks in advance

Its been at the back of my mind for a long while... DanGB advised me of the power band been higher up in the power band, possibly not ideal for how I like to drive. But if there are configurations that can give good output but has not too dissimilar spool characteristics to the KO4 I'd be happy

I think you'd be mad to spend thousands on a BT set up when your K04 with all the mods and wmi can produce around 380 bhp.

Agreed. K04 on the tfsi with all supporting mods gives very good power and driveability. BT will give more but with fwd I think you will start to lose something for a daily.

not only that, and difficult to directly comment on the MK2 as I have never driven one, but I would imagine even though a tuned k04 may put out a little less power than a BT, the K04 will make up for it with it spooling quicker

I think the MK2 with stg2 mods and water meth would be a good match for going BT (2871 kit which normally puts out around 380 and a little more, from results I have seen on here)....unless you are thinking of silly power and going for something like a GT35 and 500bhp+

personally I would put the money aside for this current climate, as it appears to be that it will only get worse before it improves

Would the turbo not be running on its limits at that power?

What sort of wmi set up would help me get that kind of output?
These k04's are a much better turbo than the k04 i have in my LCR, i have heard of hardley any failures.I wouldn't say its at its limits as i haven't seen any logs of what theses turbo's are flowing to make 360 bhp say. Any decent wmi kit will allow you to dial in an extra 6 degrees of timing which equates to roughly 20bhp (see Bill Devil's Own Kits). You'llhave big turbo power for small turbo spool. Put your saved cash safe for your next new car a few years down the line.;)
Also there should come a time when you sit back and look at your motor and think to yourself that your happy with it. Don't let the loose change in your pocket guide you to do more mods just for the hell of it.

Probably worth going for WMI whatever mike, but the problem is that the APR software may not make the most of it like mine as you cant advance the timing in the map itself.

in my country, there's a Cupra running 450whp with a GT30 turbo. honestly, its was the most amazing feeling in my life when the dude took me for a spin..i have never been thrusted so far back into the seat ever in my life. also the accumulation of speed just in 4th gear is madness..literally takes under a second from 4000-7000rpm. he is running Unitronic Stage 2 BT software..took awhile to get the setup right however it was well worth it in my mind.

Lemmiwinks works with APR fine, its just applies to the full rev range though so you can't advance the timing to only parts of the rev range.
