Polishing Charge Pipe

I've seen this on a few cars, and I quite fancy giving it a go myself.

Are there any special methods to it? I've got a grinding wheel on a bench that I can put a polishing wheel on, so hopefully that should make life a lot easier.

So what do I need to do though? Take it off, strip the paint, sand it down and polish it like crazy?

You need quite a tourqey bench grinder to use a proper polishing wheel :)

I'd 180, 320, 400, then the 3 stages of polish and mops....should come up like a mirror then.

When I do them I apply several coats of paint striper, leave to soak, then use a 4" wire brush drill bit to remove the paint, this will make a lot of mess.
Then start with 180, 240, 400, 600, 800, sometimes 1200 grit wet and dry, apply a but of washing up liquid to the water, it stops the paper cloging.
I have had a few lately that have had very deep scratch's in them which I had to use an orbital sander on before the wet and dry.
Next either 2 passes with 2 different grade polishing mop's and polishing compounds, or a good rub with some "Autosol" and wire wool.

Dont forget to get some dissposible glove, dust mask and goggles.

They take between 8-10 hours to do

It's one messy job to do, i did mine the same way as D.K, but one thing i did differently was that i caked it in paint stripper and instead of manually srapping it off i powered washed it off, it might take some of the pain out of doing this job.

Its well worth it though when you see it all shiny and fancy looking

If you use the 3 stages of mops and polishes you only need to go up to 400 grit as the polishing machine will do the rest and save you loads of time.

This is 3 stage polished straight from 400 grit

After the 3rd stage you definatly wouldn't want to autosol it as it would scratch it :)

I'v only got the 2 stages at the moment.
The pipes come out differently to the manifolds as they are different metals, the manifolds are a lot softer, the pipe's come up really well with a bit of Autosol.
