Tappet/Chain Tension noise

I know this has been mentioned before, but the noise on AUQ engine is really annoying me......It sounds like a diesel on start up!!! Quietens down after few seconds, but why!!!! I previously had an Audi TT with APX engine and it never had this noise!!! Is it the tappets filling with oil, or as read elsewhere the Hydraulic chain tensioner? WHich i read has 2 parts available a cheap one or more exspensive £200 one?

My question does the AUQ have the cheap tensioner fitted and the APX the more exspensive, or is this just a live with issue with Seat's?

i had this on my AUQ it turned out to be the vvt unit not a cheap fix about £580 with vag parts now starts like a new car no unwanted sounds at all.

Its typical to all 1.8Ts sadly, some do it some dont. Also has a lot to do with servicing and quality of oil used.

New chain tensioner is required to stop it and its pretty labour intensive. Although you don't have to most combine with a cambelt change unless one has been done very recently. You can get away without touching the cambelt.

I wouldent go as far as saying its a labour intensive job, all your doing is removing the inlet cam and tensioner, its the price of the tensioner that is the problem.

Aah so is it to do with chain vvt as thought/read? I need to do a cambelt change asap so will do that at the same time, am i right in thinking there was a How to somewhere on here?
And also is this the part that has 2 variants? A lo and hi quality part? Any idea which one (if both fit the AUQ engine)

If your paying a dealer price then even if they quote 3 hrs it gets fairly expensive which is what I was trying to get accross. Seen it messed up plenty of times as well.

Dont use sealerships, there is plenty of good indipendant garages which have expeirence with VAG engines and wont charge too much, its about a 1.5 - 2 hour job if you done them before.

hi i have a lcr and it has 47k miles on it with a up to date dealer history when the bonnet is lifted the engine sounds quite tappy as i have just bought the car i am not sure if it should be making a noise i thought a low mileage 1.8t should be quite quiet please help anyone will be appreciated my friend tells me it will be the hydraulic tappets and not to worry as long as the services are kept up to date. help

If its a ticking noise then it could be carbon cansiter, although low milage doesnt mean your car wont go wrong.

Where is the carbon canister, and read a few threads on removing it and gaining 2psi more boost? Being a newbie to the 1.8 T engine, what does it do? :p
